"I'll be honest, I know absolutely nothing about Thundercats outside of the cartoons they made (don't get me started on the third one. Teen Titans Go did that formula better and you know it), but I was pleasantly surprised. There's a rich, immersive world that the Thundercats have, one that Joshua explores to its fullest, including a fun coming of age story for the main character, Lion-O. Call me crazy, but I'd be all for a sequel to this, I just don't know if the general public will be, but I guess we'll see." - Mitchell Parker, New York Times

"This ThunderCats film feels less like a bold revival and more like a dutiful, overstuffed franchise blueprint, undone by flat direction and an almost total lack of cinematic urgency. Jonathan Liebesman's uninspired direction and Joshua Collins' script help reduce what should be operatic fantasy into a series of emotionally empty action beats. It checks off love and character introduction like it's trying to fill a bingo card." - Lisa Mosby, IGN

"ThunderCats is earnest in its ambitions and seems to love the property, but it is lacking in original action beats and narrative economy. The various character arcs are functional, but often way to on-the-nose, often spelled out through dialogue rather than dramatized through hard choices or loss. The final battle is rousing but bloated. While the tone is sincere and accessible - and would likely please longtime fans - the film plays things far too safe." - Jason Helm, New York Observer

Rated PG-13 for fantasy action violence
