Release: Something and/or Nothing

Something and/or Nothing
Genre: Fantasy/Horror
Director: Meirad Tako
Writer: Meirad Tako
Cast: Karl Glusman

Budget: $7,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $2,046,112
Foreign Box Office: $2,600,050
Total Profit: -$9,916,006

Reaction: For a low budget, experimental project, things certainly could have gone worse financially. You won't be seeing a ton of films like this as it will be virtually impossible to make profits, but once in a while shouldn't hurt the studio's bottom line too much.

"It's probably not possible to truly review a film like Something and/or Nothing, which feels more like an avant garde art film than an actual narrative feature. It is pretty incoherent, but it is visually interesting and Karl Glusman commits to the lead/only role." - Charles Triano, Los Angeles Times

"True to writer/director Meirad Tako's brand of weirdness arrives another short-lived horror movie like Ben Collins' Skin. But unlike Skin, the overall meaning may differ from person-to-person. I kinda got it yet still trying to piece it all together. Passion or Vanity project? I don't know to who the beholder." - Dallas Atteberry, Belton Journal

"I'm not sure I exactly know what to make of something like Something and/or Nothing. It wasn't necessarily terrible, but it also isn't something that should be pushed out in movie theaters in this day and age. There is no plot, no immediacy, just a series of strange imagery surrounding star Karl Glusman without much to tie any of it together." - Jason Helm, New York Observer

Rated R for frightening imagery and violence

Something and/or Nothing
Genre: Fantasy/Horror
Director: Meirad Tako
Writer: Meirad Tako
Cast: Karl Glusman

Plot: Black screen, only black screen. But not for long, with the sound of shrieking in the background the black slowly spin into a kaleidoscopic colourful room that still spinning.

Flashes of montages of riot, war, violence starts to come out one by one, at the beginning it was from just a small portion of the screen but it slowly gets bigger and the transition between the montages are getting faster and faster.

The montage stops on a picture of a baby getting stabbed with a bayonet. The picture getting smaller and smaller until it dissapear leaving us back to the kaleidoscopic room.

A man (Karl Glusman) appears in the middle of the room, we dont know whether he is clothed or naked, his body is coloured like the kaleidoscope room.

He walks but his position doesn't move, but the kaleidoscope colour around bim are collapsing one after another that it only left the red colour on the upper left side of the screen. He stops his walk and look at the red colour, he tilts his hand and then turn his face to the camera, he smiles, a creepy smile.

From his mouth blood is dripping slowly, it drips faster and faster that he coughed out a knife out of his mouth, he takes the knife and throw it to the left side of the screen right to the red colour until falls to the ground, he pick it up and smashed it to the ground.

The man starts levitating and turned upside down. under or above his turned-upside-down-position merged another him, he look up and see each other then smile, then laugh.

The run to catch each other and create twisting circle among themself. Jump cuts, to the man being bound by a big chain in his head, the man sits and acts like a dog and bark at someone whose head is cut by the upperside of the screen.

They point at the man and he is cowering just like a dog, then from out of nowhere, another the man is materialized out of thin air and attack the person offscreen. The first man smile and move in circle showing his delight when the other man came back, the first man like other man's face but it angers the other man making him stand and immediately abusing the first man.

In between the abuse, the other man say with ominous voice, "Be in hell" For exactly a hundred time with some jump cuts showing how the other man physically abuse the first man. After a hundred time the other man forcefully pulls the chain out of the first man head tearing out his back of the head and taking his brain out.

The first man is still alive and and stand despite missing a brain, he only smiles while blood dripping from his nose, eyes, and ears. The other man told him to walk and he obeys, after walking 3 steps limping, the other man break his leg by crushing his knees.

The first man whisper, "Hero" For a couple of time. The camera zoom in to his beaten face and start spinning counter clockwise, the event is rewinding to the first moment and then black out.

"Esse Est Percipi" Is written on the screen, the words expand into a colourful fractal trip for an hour of screen time. At the of the fractal trip, the man appear again, levitating with ropes around his neck, chocking him hard but he still opens his eyes and smile to the camera.

Release: The Monster Squad

The Monster Squad
Genre: Horror/Fantasy/Comedy
Director: Shawn Levy
Writer: Walter McKnight
Based on the 1987 film
Cast: August Maturo, Steve Zahn, Tom Wlashciha, Rory McCann, Mason Thames, Tinsley Price, Keith L. Williams, Udo Kier, Hannah Kepple, Jason Lee, Javier Botet, Brian Steele, Robert Englund

Budget: $37,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $54,005,180
Foreign Box Office: $38,479,030
Total Profit: $31,438,140

Reaction: After the financial disaster of Round 1, this round is off to a good start with a modest little hit like The Monster Squad.

“I had a blast with this film, and it seems like the actors had a good time too. I feel like it was a great throwback to cheesy cinema, the likes that we simply don’t see too often now. Shawn Levy was the perfect fit for the film. The fast paced nature of the film makes it an easy breezy watch.” - Francis McLaughlin, The Guardian

"Having a special place in my heart, I have always hoped for a decent remake/reboot of the '87 Original. In light of Levy's & McKnight's take, I feel both pleased and disappointed with the result. While the cast is decent, and Levy's direction keeps the film engaging, I can't help but feel let down by the unoriginal script, which fails to explore new tales or directions unique to the IP. While the soundtrack is still impressively energetic and the overall vibe entertaining, those who have seen the original need not expect much beyond that." - Rebecca Cruyssen, CNN.com

"I appreciated how unpretentious this Monster Squad remake was. It doesn't try to re-imagine the concept of talk down to fans of the original. It simply tells a version of the original story in a slightly different way with a slightly different energy. While this remake may struggle to capture all of the charm of the 1987 original, this one does tell a story with (much) better casting, better direction and a tighter, more efficient story."  - Clark Davis, JoBlo.com

Rated PG-13 for violence, crude humor, sexual reference and some frightening imagery

Last Resort Films Jukebox: The Monster Squad

Now Showing: The Monster Squad

The Monster Squad
Genre: Horror/Fantasy/Comedy
Director: Shawn Levy
Writer: Walter McKnight
Based on the 1987 film
Cast: August Maturo, Steve Zahn, Tom Wlashciha, Rory McCann, Mason Thames, Tinsley Price, Keith L. Williams, Udo Kier, Hannah Kepple, Jason Lee, Javier Botet, Brian Steele, Robert Englund

Plot: The 1880's!
Abraham Van Helsing (Robert Englund) tries to read an incantation while holding an amulet to rid the world of Dracula and other vampires for good. Dracula (Tom Wlashciha) goes into hiding though and Van Helsing is unable to read the incantation for the sun rises. He knows that the world now must wait another hundred years to cast Dracula and his other monsters into another universe away from ours. He tells his apprentices to take the amulet and his diary and take it far away from Transylvania so that Dracula can never find it.

The 1980's!
Sean Crenshaw (August Maturo), Patrick (Mason Thames) and Eugene (Keith L. Williams) sit around a table playing a table top role playing game based around the classic film monsters. They call themselves "The Monster Squad". Friday the 13th plays on a TV in the background while Patrick complains about today's monsters not having nearly the personality of the Universal greats. Back to the game, Eugene rolls a 20-sided die, landing on a 5. Sean then reads from the game book that the brides of Dracula have killed their entire party and their quest has failed. Patrick objects, stating the campaign is too difficult for anyone to win. Sean pokes fun at Patrick's belly-aching.

Sean is walking his younger sister Phoebe (Tinsley Price) home from school when he notices a Halloween display in an antique store. He drags his sister inside to look around. Sean stumbles upon a very old book, but he recognizes a name on the inside cover: Abraham Van Helsing. He buys the book for $2 as the clerk insists the book was just set dressing and is pretty much worthless. When he gets home, Sean calls up his friends and tells them to urgently get over to his house as he has something cool. When Patrick and Eugene arrive, he shows off the book, which he believes to be the diary of Abraham Van Helsing. Patrick says that Van Helsing was just a character Bram Stoker created, while Eugene is a bit more eager to believe Sean's theory, but points out that none of them can understand the German the diary appears to be written in. Sean's dad, the town sheriff, Del Crenshaw (Steve Zahn), reminds everyone that he has to work late the next night - Halloween - but that if he takes his sister trick or treating for a little bit the boys can order some pizza and rent some movies - his treat. Sean begrudginly agrees. Eugene thinks that's a sweet deal though. Phoebe tells the boys that they can ask the scary german guy who lives down the street to translate.

At the police station, Del keeps getting calls from a frantic, desperate man (Jason Lee), insisting that Dracula is coming back on Halloween night and will try to plunge the world into darkness so he can rule. Del hangs up the phone, joking to his officers that at least the prank calls around Halloween are a bit more entertaining.

Sean, Patrick and Eugene walk down the block and knock on a door. The door is answered by an intense-looking, but friendly "Scary German Guy" (Udo Kier). They ask if he can translate the diary for them. They sit on his front porch as he reads from the diary. He describes an amulet composed of concentrated "good". Once a century, the amulet becomes vulnerable to destruction when good and bad reach a balance. He then states the the diary has an incantation that must be read by a female virgin on the night of balance to open the wormhole to cast the monsters into limbo. The diary calculates the next "day of balance" to be the next night... Halloween. The Scary German Guy comments that the diary is a fun scary story perfect for this time of year. When the leave his porch, the boys talk about if the diary is true or not.

A plane is flying from Europe to the United States when it crash lands in a swamp. A coffin is dragged out of the wreckage in the swamp by the Gill-Man (Brian Steele). Dracula watches from a distance in bat form. He flies over to the coffin, which Gill-Man opens to reveal Frankenstein's Monster (Rory McCann). Dracula awakens Frankenstein's Monster, but the sun will soon come up and he must find a place to sleep. Frankenstein's Monster stumbles away from the crash and finds himself walking into the backyard of the Crenshaw house. Phoebe sees "Frank" outside of her bedroom window and goes to talk to him.

In the middle of the night at the town's museum, a security guard responds to a the sound of broken glass coming from the Ancient Egypt exhibit. When he goes to investigate, he finds the exhibit's main attraction, a 2000 year old mummy, has come back to life. The Mummy (Javier Botet) attacks the guard and escapes the museum.

As a bat, Dracula flies to the cemetery and finds a cave near the town cemetery. There it is revealed that he has already located the amulet, so now he just needs to wait for the window to open on Halloween night. He is soon joined by The Mummy and the Gill-Man in the cave.

Halloween...
Sean finds his sister having a tea party in the backyard with Frank. Sean calls over Patrick and Eugene. They discuss how Frankenstein's Monster can be killed. Eugene says that Frankenstein's Monster is already dead, so he cannot be killed. Patrick points out that in Mary Shelley's original book, the creature sets himself on fire in a suicide attempt in the end. The Monster Squad make three makeshift torches and charge into the backyard, ready to set Frank on fire. Phoebe stops them, insisting that Frank is nice. Phoebe then demonstrates by showing that she has taught Frank how to play pattycake. They ask if he knows about Dracula. In broken English, Frank manages to inform them that Dracula brought him here, but he doesn't want to help him because Dracula is mean and he doesn't want to be mean, Frank wants to be nice.

Before it gets dark, Sean and his friends take Phoebe and Frank trick-or-treating around town. Frank wears a mask of Frankenstein's Monster. They get to as many houses as they can while it is still light out. Most of the adults assume that Frank is Del is a costume with stilts. As the group passes the town sporting goods store, they decide to load up some weapons for a trip to Dracula's hideout. Patrick picks out a crossbow, Sean picks out an axe, Eugene picks out a BB gun, Frank picks out a baseball bat. The group gathers all of the silver ware from their houses and melt it down to BB sized pellets. They also make sharpen several sticks from the woods into wooden stakes.

The man who called the police the night before arrives at the police station. He calls himself a "Wolf Man" and demands to be placed in jail so that he can protect. Given the man's erratic behavior, Del arranges for an ambulance to take the "Wolf Man" to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation. As the Wolf Man is being loaded up into the ambulance, Del gets an urgent call from the town museum reporting that mummy has been stolen from a display. On the drive to the hospital, the "Wolf Man" begins to transform as the clouds part, revealing a full moon. He fully transforms into a werewolf and causes the ambulance to crash into a tree. He runs off into the forest where he joins up with Dracula, Gill-Man and The Mummy (Javier Botet).

Frank leads the boys and Phoebe to Dracula's cemetary cave hideout. They sneak inside and manage to steal the amulet away from Dracula. They run away as Dracula, The Mummy and the Wolf Man chase after, nearly getting hit by the truck of the Scary German Guy. They try to explain that they are being chased by monsters, but he laughs off their claims, saying that diary must have gotten to them. He then sees The Mummy and the Wolf Man emerge. He lets the group into his truck and speeds off as the werewolf chases after them. They say they have to go to the local church to read the incantation, but they need a female virgin. When they pull up to the church, Patrick spots his older sister Lisa (Hannah Kepple) on a date at the pizza place across the street. He runs over and drags her over to the church.

Dracula, the Mummy, Gill-Man and the Wolf Man all converge on the church in the center of town as the Scary German Guy helps Lisa recite the incantation from Van Helsing's journal. Patrick begins firing his crossbow at Dracula, but Dracula turns into a bat in order to evade the arrows. Sean attacks The Mummy with his axe, chopping off the Mummy's arm, but it doesn't slow him down. Frank fights the Wolf Man while Eugene tries to hit the Wolf Man with the silver BB pellets.

Del and his officers are inundated with calls about a violent commotion in the middle of town. He tells everyone to load up, arm up and they will go and take a look.

When Lisa gets done reciting the incantation, nothing happens. Patrick asks his sister if she's really a virgin still. She becomes defensive, eventually revealing that she recently had sex for the first time with her boyfriend. Patrick plugs his ears as she talks. Sean then asks if anyone else is a virgin. None of the boys want to admit to being a virgin, but Eugene then asks what about Phoebe. Sean tells him not to talk about his sister that way, but Eugene then points out that she obviously would be a virgin given her age. The Scary German Guy helps Phoebe read the incantation. Eugene manages to hit the Wolf Man in the eye with a silver BB. The Wolf Man turns back to human form and thanks the boys for ending his curse as he dies. Dracula is about to bite into Sean when Phoebe finishes reading the incantation, opening up a wormhole. Abraham Van Helsing emerges from the wormhole and drags Dracula into it. The Mummy is swept up into it, as well as the Gill-Man. Frank starts to get swept up into it, but Phoebe holds his hand, not wanting her new friend to leave. Frank thanks her for being nice to him. He lets go of her hand and is swept up into the wormhole.

Del and his officers arrive on the scene after all of the action has been finished. He asks his children what happened. He thought they would be at home watching scary movies and eating pizza. Phoebe begins telling her father all about Dracula and Frank and how the Monster Squad saved the day.

The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 26 Round 1)

Season 26 is not off to a great start. That and more in The Roundup....

3. The Saints
The film may have been a massive flop at the box office, but I felt a good portion of the film worked. A lot of films work in concept but are then executed poorly. I feel like The Saints is the flip-side of that. Conceptually, there are a lot of issues with the film (more on that later), but the execution was pretty solid all things considered.

2. Made Men
Made Men's influences were maybe a bit too on the nose, but the main group of actors cast were all great. It could be a contender for Best Ensemble Cast depending on how the season turns out.

1. Production Design
The posters for this season are already looking pretty great. And, having seen most of this season's posters in advance, I think the Best Production Design GRA race is going to be a competitive one.

3. The Saints
Others have already gone over this (including Dwight Gallo over on the forum), but I thought I might take a crack at explaining why the film was doomed from the start. 1) Superhero films featuring original heroes almost never work at the box office. 2) Female superhero films/TV series aimed at a young audience struggle to find a big audience (Dwight's mention of Disney +'s Ms. Marvel is dead-on - and I would add LRF's own The Powerpuff Girls to that list as well). 3) Lack of marketable actors (if the biggest name in your cast is tha actor playing someone's dad, you may want to rethink some of your casting a bit). In the end, it wasn't a bad film, it just didn't appeal to a big enough audience to be successful.

2. Eye of the Scarecrow
Talk about a super generic horror film. I suspect it only managed to make a little money because of the star power of the cast.

1. Box Office
Last season's box office was a bumpy road, so I'm guessing the studio wasn't thrilled with losing near $90 million in just the first round of Season 26.

Made Men
Nicolas Winding Refn became the first director to helm 10 films for LRF with the release of Made Men, which has become the only film of those 10 to fail to turn a profit at the box office.

Reaction: Thankfully Eye of the Scarecrow has thankfully managed to make a profit, becoming the first profitable film of Season 26. The season is obviously still in the red, but at least it is a step in the right direction financially.

"An intriguing concept, however, I feel as though every actor in this film is wasted. It does not feel like a film that would attract the likes of Florence Pugh, Logan Lerman and John Lithgow. As I said the premise was interesting enough but I feel as though Carl Flimmer did nothing with it to warrant the film being made." - Jonah Wells, IndieWire

"As much as the premise is entertaining and an engrossing prologue try to glue it together, the script isn't enough as Aja's common lust for gore overtook him with this one. If there was enough to even relate with the cast, the film just isn't complete to say anything other than a throwaway rental." - Tullia Seward, Slate

"Eye of the Scarecrow is a forgettable horror entry that sorely lacking in genuine scares. The film takes a while to get going, and even once it does it then gets repetitive. The kills may be bloody, but they didn't feel inventive enough tp keep this film out of the bargain bin. The film managed to  attract a talented cast, but they are unable to wring much out of their underwritten characters." -  - Paul Landon, Film School Rejects

Eye of the Scarecrow
Genre: Horror
Director: Alexandre Aja
Writer: Carl Flimmer
Cast: Florence Pugh, Logan Lerman, Naomi Scott, Justin Prentice, Lewis Pullman, Elizabeth Lail, Bella Thorne, Lauren German, John Lithgow, John Gallagher Jr.

Plot: The film begins one evening with a tired farmer with a tired face named Butch Anderson (John Lithgow) who is undergoing a robbery and shoots the criminals with the rifle of warning shots to make the thieves flee. Finally we see the lord being joined by his sons Rick (John Gallagher Jr.) and Josie (Lauren German) and the three hug each other for the narrow escape. Dutch says thieves failed to steal anything. The next day Butch is working in his cornfield and is trying to scare the crows that are ruining the crop. While he is chasing the crows he has a heart attack and he falls, spearing himself in the rake that was on the ground. At the same time his son Rick was hoisting a scarecrow in the field while Josie in the distance witnessing the scene because at that moment she was going out after having prepared a lemonade for the two men. A few months go by and Rick and his sister Josie are still trying to overcome their grief as their father had always been a key figure for them, and money was running out. In the stories of Rick and Josie, it is clear, however, that since this scarecrow was created, they have no longer been visited by crows, foxes on their farm and above all no thief has ever tried to enter their property. Moreover it is seen that the two as time went by continued to make the scarecrow more and more disturbing and even frightening and adorned it with macabre objects. Every so often the two also have horrible nightmares in which the protagonists are the father and the scarecrow but despite this their bond with it is becoming strangely stronger. The puppet was made up of a gray woolen pitch with branches that formed a body and clothes made of animal skin colored black while the head was formed by a sack of lute containing something. In addition, animal teeth were inserted into the mouth and a necklace composed of large skewered insects was placed around the neck. The disturbing aspect was also given by a single eye made with a red button on the left side of the head with a reflection that seemed to always look at people. Although the Andersons' house was rather isolated, the other citizens looked at the two brothers with a wary look at their behavior after Butch's death. One evening while they were watching TV, they were overwhelmed by a gang of attackers and after torturing them to find out where the money was, they killed them. The strange thing is that a few days later the sheriff was called to the place because six bodies had been found in the house, Rick and Josie and of the four delinquents. The criminals had been found in a pool of blood and horribly mutilated. Clayford thought that the only explanation was that a possible fifth member of the gang had gone mad for some reason and had killed everyone else. Clayford began to work on the case and meanwhile time passed and we see the Anderson house is abandoned and we see the scarecrow guarding a land without a master even though the wheat continued to grow tall and luxuriant.

One evening we see a group of friends from a baseball team returning home in a furgoncinoc after winning a tournament. The driver, Jackson Finn (Justin Prentice) stops because he has to pee right near the Anderson house. The group, composed also of girls, girlfriends or girlfriends of the players meanwhile goes down to smoke or take selfies in sexy poses. Among these we find Vanessa (Samara Weav) avowedly bisexual, and Jenny (Bella Thorne) Jackson's girlfriend. On the sidelines were Grace (Naomi Scott) and her cousin, the introverted Lisa (Florence Pugh) who had been persuaded to attend the tournament by Grace herself as her parents had recently died in an accident. Then there were Simon (Logan Lerman) who seems to have a crush on Lisa and Mark (Lewis Pullman) who is considered a bit of a funny guy. After making a bit of revelry, Mark sees something in the field, he was the scarecrow. The whole group gets closer ... some like Vanessa and Grace find it disgusting while others like Jackson and Mark find it funny and start mocking him and playing with it. For example, Mark takes the hat and begins to be an idiot. Suddenly Jenny sees that red button that shines from one eye and since it was disturbing, she asks her boyfriend to do something. Jackson at this point uproots the scarecrow from the support and throws it on the ground and the button comes off rolling into the ground and the boy kicks the scarecrow. At the same time a gust of wind blows off the hat from Mark's head and Lisa feels a strange sensation. The girl, with kindness, says to leave the puppet alone and to leave but is treated badly by Jenny and Jackson. At this point Simon also intervenes defending Lisa while being mocked by Vanessa while she amuses the scene while smoking a cigarette. Suddenly Grace intervenes telling everyone to stop being idiots and point to the scarecrow saying to have seen him move. Jackson says it is impossible and at most it may have been the wind and he gives him another kick and with the cigarette and the lighter sets fire to him saying that it is disturbing with Mark's help. Meanwhile, Vanessa picks up the shiny button from the ground to watch it and Grace, Lisa and Simon set off for the van. Soon the others also arrive. Jackson sets the van in motion but a few seconds later it turns off without starting again. It was night and not knowing what to do they went back and settled in the uninhabited house while the next day they would go for help in some way. Jackson and Jenny started frolicking outside in the middle of a bunch of weeds, Mark went out into the garden to smoke a cane while the others started playing cards taking advantage of the light of some candles that were lit, at that quiet moment even Vanessa seemed nice in the eyes of Lisa who usually had an annoying attitude, especially when she was in the company of Jackson and Jenny. At this moment, Mark feels something behind him and quickly escape near the corn. Mark, intrigued and a little stoned, approaches and goes into the field a little, shining light on his cell phone, but realizes that it was a red cat. At that moment he realizes he is near where the scarecrow had previously been burned. Mark, however, realizes that there was nothing left at that point, only a trail of ash coming out of the right side of the cornfield. As he thoughtfully started toward the house another rustling sound caught his eye and he found the red cat he had seen previously dead and picked it up. At that moment he hears Jackson calling out his girlfriend's name aloud and shortly after he comes to him while the others arrive a few seconds later. Jackson says that after sex she had gone for a walk and now she can't find him anymore. Mark tries to calm his friend and Grace and Vanessa ask him what he is doing with a dead cat in his hand while Lisa approaches him and gets notices that the cat has a torn left eye. At that moment, Jenny's body fell from the roof of the house leaving all the boys stunned and terrified. Jackson approaches her and trembles as he embraces her. Jenny's face is mutilated and without a left eye. Meanwhile another gust reached the boys and a disturbing whisper could be heard in the air and everyone ran away inside the house and locked themselves inside. At this point we see the bloody hands that beat on a window, not even the time to react that a black figure takes the girl by the head and throws her away. The four survivors frantically try to bar the windows and every entrance with wooden planks and objects found here and there while the dark figure tries to enter until everything becomes silent. After having breathed a sigh of relief they try to understand what to do. Mark is very scared and is panicking and receiving a slap from Jackson. Grace doesn't know what to do while Lisa tries to reassure her fellow adventurers. Grace begins to smell an acrid smell coming from upstairs and then they see smoke. The group goes upstairs and they realize that there is a fire and try to stop with blankets without much success. Suddenly the black figure appears before them through the flames. The four are terrified to see that their attacker is the scarecrow that was in the field. Mark,Simon and Jackson, in the smoke, try to fight the attacker and order the two girls to escape. Jackson is immediately thrown down the stairs landing right in front of Grace and Lisa. Mark instead is taken with force by the head and shaken with power until killing him. The two girls help Jackson and Mark to get up, break the door and leave while the house begins to be devoured by flames. In front of the entrance they find Vanessa's impaled body and it too has no left eye. Lisa realizes that the red button that was used as an eye in the scarecrow could be useful for something. Lisa remembers that the last time she saw him, she was holding Vanessa in her hands while they were playing cards and fiddling with it. Grace looks into Vanessa's battered body but is not there and therefore Lisa enters the burning house to take the button.Lisa breaks a piece of shirt and uses it to cover her mouth and enters the house, finds the button and runs out. Grace asks if she saw a creature and Lisa says she didn't see anything. Lisa begins to rant and then call the scarecrow showing the bright red sky button to the sky. At that moment the puppet breaks through the window and hits Jackson in the back and then looking at the two girls he takes his left eye out and the boy falls to the ground dead. At that moment, Simon pounced on the scarecrow, taking advantage of the moment in which he is killing Jackson but is seized by the neck and turned up. Grace takes a chair and hits him while her is thrown far into the cornfield. Simon manages to stop the scarecrow from behind for a moment and tells Lisa to take the gallows and stick even if he does it too. Lisa, with a moment of hesitation, takes the run-up angrily and impales the two in the tool house and then hits the scarecrow's head with a shovel that breaks away from the body and rolls it on the ground and then throws it in the fire with the hope of killing the creature. He approaches Simon who is injured and sees Grace coming up limping while hearing the police siren coming to the farm because she was attracted by the fire.  The film ends with the red button that starts to shine more and more and that a new head is slowly growing back in the scarecrow.

Reaction: Season 26 is obviously not off to a great start with the two films released combining to lose nearly $100 million.

"Made Men is weird combination of genres at times. It is far from perfect, but it is also never boring. The main crew are all likable and the film has some fun with gangster movie expectations. The film could have used a bit more depth to help carry it to greater heights, but it still a mostly entertaining little film." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy

"The plot of Made Men is basically forgettable, but that doesn't matter when the film is clearly an excuse to get the main group of actors together and play on Scorsese gangster movie tropes. Made Men is ultimately a mixed bag. The cast is good and make you root for their characters, but the story doesn't give them enough to work with." - Jason Helm, New York Observer

"Made Men is a different vibe for director Refn, which is good for keeping him fresh. He uses the cast in cruel, bloody (and somewhat enjoyable) ways. Still, the story isn't wholly original but rather a vehicle for the cast to relive glory days. However, you don't get to know the "Made Men" or know how to separate them apart. Liking its themes of how reliving the past can cost more than bargained for, Made Men is dampened down by a tired revenge gangster flick." - Aubrey-Jade Mitchell, The Sun
