Plot: The film opens in the silence of space, broken only by faint, echoing static. Samus Aran’s (Jennifer Lawrence) gunship glides through the void, her face lit by the soft glow of her console. Her expression is hardened but tired, her eyes scanning a garbled Galactic Federation distress signal. The words “Phazon Experimentation” and “Frigate Orpheon” flash briefly across her visor. She hesitates, her fingers brushing the controls before punching in coordinates. The hum of the ship’s engines grows louder as the stars stretch and blur.
Inside the gunship, Samus sits in the dim cabin, her body slouched slightly as the silence of space envelops her. The camera lingers on her reflection in the cracked viewport, fractured and unsteady, mirroring the conflict within her. She reaches up and removes her helmet, revealing a face etched with fatigue and faint scars. Her hair falls loosely, damp from hours spent in her armor.
She exhales, a long and measured breath, before walking to a small compartment. From it, she retrieves an old, weathered datapad. The screen flickers to life, displaying an image of her parents on K-2L, smiling in a sunlit field. Her thumb hovers over the screen as if touching the past could make it real again. A faint memory flickers in her mind: the screams, the heat of the flames, Ridley’s (voiced by David Tennant) monstrous silhouette against the smoke. She shakes her head as if physically pushing the thoughts away.
Setting the datapad aside, Samus stretches her arms and rolls her shoulders, the faint creak of muscles unused to freedom from her armor breaking the quiet. She moves to a small console, where she begins a diagnostic on her suit. Lines of data scroll by, the glow casting faint shadows across her face. Her gaze lingers on the energy readouts, efficient but dwindling. A silent reminder of the battles yet to come.
For a brief moment, she leans back in her chair, staring out at the endless void of stars. Her eyes close, and her breathing steadies, the tension in her shoulders softening slightly. But the peace is short-lived. Her ship’s proximity alarm chirps faintly, pulling her back to the mission at hand. She rises, her movements deliberate, and retrieves her helmet. Her fingers brush the scars on its surface before she places it back on, her reflection disappearing behind the visor.
The Orpheon looms ahead, a hulking, derelict vessel spinning slowly in space. Its surface is riddled with scars from battles long lost. Samus docks her ship, the hiss of the pressurization sequence cutting through the stillness. She steps into the frigate, her armored boots clanging against the metal floor. The sound reverberates unnaturally, as though the ship itself is alive. The camera stays close, capturing her every breath as her visor’s HUD scans the environment: no signs of life, but faint traces of Phazon radiation.
The corridors of the ship are far from empty. Federation operatives have already deployed here, moving cautiously through the wreckage. Commander Marcus Nemo (Jamie Foxx), a seasoned officer with a calm, authoritative demeanor, leads the team. He communicates with Samus via her comms, their conversations revealing a tense but respectful relationship. “Aran,” his voice crackles through her helmet. “You’re late.”
Samus pauses, scanning the wreckage. “Good thing, I work alone, Commander. I'm not on Federation time. What’s the status?”
Nemo sighs audibly. “We’ve secured two levels, but the Phazon, it’s worse than we thought. I’ve already lost two men to exposure. We need to contain this before it spreads.”
Samus moves forward without another word, her visor highlighting trails of Phazon contamination on the walls. Nemo continues, speaking into her comms. “I don’t like this, Aran. The Federation shouldn’t be meddling with this stuff.”
“But they are,” Samus replies flatly. “And you’re here to clean up the mess.”
The team includes several operatives who cross paths with Samus as the mission unfolds. Mauk (Zoe Kravitz), the team’s sharpshooter, is young but highly skilled. Her sharp wit and skepticism clash with Samus’s stoicism. “So, you’re the great Samus Aran,” Mauk remarks during a brief encounter. “You don’t look so tough.”
“Keep moving,” Samus replies, her tone icy. The tension between them is palpable.
Kreatz (Anthony Ramos), the team’s engineer, adds a layer of vulnerability to the group. His nervous energy contrasts sharply with Samus’s composure. He’s the one who uncovers key logs about the Phazon experiments, his voice trembling as he reads aloud: “Subjects show signs of irreversible mutation. DNA destabilization. It’s… it’s like they’re being rewritten.”
“Stay focused,” Nemo orders, his tone firm. But there’s an edge of unease even in his voice.
Braga (Stephan James), the team’s enforcer, provides brute strength and unwavering loyalty to Nemo. His physicality is matched by a quiet intensity, a man of few words whose actions carry weight. The ambush comes without warning as the team navigates a cavernous chamber, its walls encrusted with pulsating Phazon growths. The air is thick, acrid, almost wet, and the flickering lights overhead cast jagged shadows that move like living things.
It starts with a low, guttural sound that echoes too perfectly, bouncing off the walls in an unnerving rhythm. Braga’s hand shoots up, signaling the group to stop. Mauk stiffens, her rifle raised, scanning the murk for movement. “Do you hear that?” Kreatz whispers, his voice trembling as he adjusts a handheld scanner. The device emits a faint, unsteady beep.
“Stay sharp,” Nemo orders, his voice steady but low. Samus, detached from the formation, moves along the edge of the chamber, her visor scanning the organic masses that writhe subtly on the walls. She pauses, her HUD lighting up with heat signatures, now multiplying, all closing in fast.
“They’re here,” she says curtly, her voice cutting through the growing tension.
The first Pirate bursts from a cluster of Phazon vines, its form grotesquely mutated, limbs elongated and spined. Its screech pierces the air as it lunges. Samus’s cannon fires instinctively, the beam illuminating the chamber in a flash of blue light. The Pirate’s torso explodes, viscera splattering the nearby walls. But more follow, dozens of them, emerging from every corner, their movements erratic, animalistic.
Chaos erupts. The camera captures the fight in tight, unflinching shots, every motion raw and desperate. Braga steps forward, his massive frame shielding Kreatz as a Pirate charges them. With a single swing of his reinforced blade, he cleaves the creature’s head clean off, blackened blood spraying across his armor. “Fall back!” he shouts, his voice carrying over the din.
Mauk’s rifle fires rapidly, her precision unerring as she picks off Pirates advancing from the flanks. “They just keep coming!” she yells, her tone a mix of fear and determination.
Braga’s quick thinking saves her life as another Pirate drops from the ceiling, its claws aimed at her exposed back. He barrels into her, knocking her aside as the creature’s claws rake across his shoulder, ripping through his armor. The sound is sickening, metal and flesh tearing in unison. Braga grits his teeth, refusing to fall, even as blood pours from the wound. With a roar, he drives his blade into the Pirate’s chest, pinning it to the ground.
“Braga!” Mauk scrambles to him, her rifle still firing as she drags him behind a fallen console. His breathing is labored, and his face twists in pain, but he waves her off. “Keep fighting,” he growls, his voice rough but resolute.
Across the room, Nemo and Samus fight back-to-back. Her cannon releases a charged shot that incinerates three Pirates in a single blast, the shockwave rippling through the chamber. Nemo’s sidearm finds its mark repeatedly, though his movements are slower, heavier than hers. “We’re being overrun!” he shouts, the desperation creeping into his usually calm demeanor.
“Hold the line,” Samus replies, her voice cold and focused.
The battle crescendos as the remaining Pirates, driven by an almost hive-like aggression, converge on the team. Braga, bloodied but defiant, forces himself to his feet, swinging his blade in wide arcs to hold them back. His strength wanes, but his resolve does not falter.
Finally, Samus unleashes a missile into the largest cluster of Pirates, the explosion tearing through the chamber and sending Phazon-laden debris flying. The room falls silent save for the heavy breathing of the survivors. Mauk steadies Braga as he collapses against the console, his face pale but his eyes burning with determination.
Nemo surveys the carnage, his expression grim. The mutated corpses and the Phazon’s pervasive corruption paint a horrifying picture. “This… this isn’t just experimentation,” he murmurs, his voice low but heavy with meaning. “The Federation knew this was beyond control.”
Samus looks at him, her expression unreadable. “Now you see it. This was never about stopping Phazon. It was about using it.”
The weight of her words hangs in the air as the team regroups, their mission far from over.
As Samus moves deeper into the ship, the silence becomes oppressive. The corridors are littered with debris, bloodstains smeared across the walls, and twisted corpses of Space Pirates. Some bodies are barely recognizable, their forms warped and bloated. Her visor picks up faint heat signatures, flickering erratically like dying embers. The camera follows her hand as it brushes against a console, bringing up logs of failed experiments. Holographic recordings show humans and creatures alike screaming in agony as Phazon corrupts their bodies, their veins glowing an unnatural blue.
A sound breaks the stillness… a low, guttural growl. Samus freezes, her arm cannon raised. The camera stays tight on her face as her visor scans the shadows. Something moves, too quick to see clearly. She steps cautiously forward, her breathing steady but shallow. The growl turns into a snarl, and suddenly a hulking, mutated Space Pirate charges out of the darkness. The fight is brutal and raw, the camera shaking with every impact as Samus dodges and counters. She fires a charged shot that slams the creature against the wall, its body disintegrating into ash.
In the control room, she finds more logs detailing the Pirates’ Phazon experiments. One file is heavily encrypted but flashes the insignia of the Galactic Federation. Samus’s breathing slows as the implications sink in: the Federation is complicit. Before she can process further, her HUD flashes a warning. Heat signatures are converging on her location.
The next sequence is a relentless gauntlet as Samus battles through waves of corrupted Pirates. The camera follows her closely, capturing every grunt and spark as she fires, dodges, and counters. The ship’s failing systems add to the chaos: sparks fly, pipes burst, and the lighting flickers. Despite her efficiency, the toll on her is visible. She hesitates over one fallen Pirate, its eyes eerily human, before steeling herself and moving on.
The team reunites briefly in the lower levels, where the Phazon contamination is at its worst. Nemo’s voice is sharp as he confronts Samus. “We’re in over our heads, Aran. We should fall back.”
“If we leave now, this spreads,” Samus replies, her voice unwavering. “We end it here.”
Deeper into the ship, the corridor widens into a vast chamber, its walls covered in jagged Phazon veins that pulse like a heartbeat, casting eerie blue light across the destruction. The Federation squad fans out, their steps cautious, weapons raised. The air is thick, metallic, and every sound, a distant drip of liquid, the hum of damaged machinery feels amplified.
Ridley emerges from the shadows above them, his grotesque form glistening with Phazon. His body is a nightmare of jagged edges, glowing fissures, and pulsating energy. With a thunderous crash, he lands at the chamber's center, his wings spreading wide as his glowing eyes scan the room. "Welcome, hunters," he snarls, his voice guttural, mocking. "To your end."
The squad reacts instantly, opening fire. Bullets and plasma bolts ricochet off Ridley’s armored hide as he charges forward with terrifying speed. He plows into Braga, sending him sprawling into a pile of debris. Kreatz scrambles for cover, his scanner clattering to the floor as he yells, "We’re outmatched! Commander, we need a retreat—"
Ridley’s tail strikes, impaling Braga before Kreatz can finish. The camera holds on the soldier’s face, frozen in shock, as Ridley flings the body aside like a broken doll. Mauk fires from the rafters, her sharpshooter rifle precise but ultimately ineffective. Ridley turns, his wings beating once, sending a gust that hurls her from her perch. She crashes to the floor with a sickening thud, clutching her ribs as blood seeps through her armor.
Nemo’s voice cuts through the chaos. "Focus fire on his head! Keep him distracted!" He unloads round after round from his sidearm, his face a mask of grim determination. Ridley’s laughter echoes through the chamber. "Pathetic," he growls, swiping at Nemo with his claws. The commander barely dodges, the blow instead shattering a console behind him.
Samus arrives, her movements precise, her cannon blazing with charged energy. The beam strikes Ridley’s chest, forcing him to stagger back. He snarls, turning his full attention to her. "Ah, the prodigal hunter returns. How many times must I kill you, girl?"
"As many as it takes," she replies coldly, firing another shot that clips his wing.
The fight intensifies, the camera switching between tight, chaotic shots of the remaining squad battling for survival and wide, cinematic angles capturing the sheer scale of Ridley’s fury. Mauk tries to crawl for cover, Kreatz dragging her as Ridley’s tail slashes through a nearby wall, sending shrapnel raining down.
Braga, battered and bleeding, roars as he charges Ridley with his blade. He lands a strike along Ridley’s flank, the Phazon-infused hide cracking slightly. Ridley whips around, claws tearing into Braga’s side. Braga collapses, coughing blood but still reaching for his weapon. "Keep… fighting…"
Nemo sees the opportunity. "Aran! Get into position!" he shouts, stepping between Samus and Ridley. His shots aim high, striking Ridley’s head and forcing the creature’s focus onto him. Samus moves silently to higher ground, scaling the crumbled walls of the chamber as her cannon charges with a low, menacing hum.
Ridley advances on Nemo, his claws gleaming with blood. "You cannot win," Ridley growls, swiping Nemo’s weapon from his hand. The commander doesn’t flinch. "Maybe not. But she will."
With a final, defiant roar, Nemo pulls a grenade from his belt, shoving it into the exposed crack in Ridley’s hide. The explosion rocks the chamber, stunning Ridley. Smoke and flame erupt from his torso, his roars turning into screeches of pain.
Samus seizes the moment. From above, her cannon fully charged, she leaps, aiming directly at Ridley’s exposed core. Time slows as the camera captures the energy blast building, the light reflecting in Ridley’s wide, hate-filled eyes. The shot lands with a deafening explosion, engulfing Ridley in blinding light.
When the smoke clears, Ridley collapses, his body convulsing as Phazon energy seeps from his wounds. His eyes dim, and with one final, guttural growl, he goes still. Samus lands heavily, her armor scorched and cracked. She looks toward Nemo’s broken body, his lifeless hand still clutching the grenade pin.
The chamber is silent, save for the faint hum of Samus’s suit. She exhales slowly, her breath visible in the cold air, before turning toward the Phazon core, the fight far from over.
Samus reaches the Phazon core, the chamber a nightmare of pulsating energy and corrupted architecture. The walls themselves seem alive, writhing with tendrils of glowing blue Phazon that reach hungrily toward the center. At the heart of it all looms the Metroid Prime, a grotesque amalgamation of flesh and energy. Its form shifts constantly, a chaotic swirl of glowing appendages and jagged carapace, its unholy core pulsing with power.
The air is thick, vibrating with a low, menacing hum that rattles Samus’s armor. She tightens her grip on her cannon, her movements deliberate as she circles the creature. Prime’s eyes, if they can be called that, lock onto her, blazing like molten suns. With an ear-splitting screech, it lunges.
The battle begins in brutal earnest. Prime’s attacks are erratic yet devastating, blasts of Phazon energy erupt from its limbs, scorching the floor and sending shards of debris flying. Samus dodges, her movements precise but growing more desperate as the creature’s strikes come faster, closer. The camera captures every bead of sweat on her brow, every labored breath as she fires charged shots into Prime’s shifting mass. The blasts tear into its form, but the wounds close almost instantly, the Phazon regenerating it before her eyes.
Prime lashes out with a massive tendril, slamming Samus into a pillar. Her visor cracks, the HUD glitching as warnings flash across the screen. She grits her teeth, forcing herself back to her feet as the creature rears up, preparing another attack. With a roar, it unleashes a wave of energy that ripples through the chamber, shattering nearby structures. Samus rolls under the blast, firing a missile into the creature’s core. The impact sends it staggering back, its screeches reverberating off the walls.
The core begins to destabilize, the pulsating energy growing brighter, more erratic. Prime’s movements grow frenzied, its attacks wild but no less deadly. Samus takes the opportunity to close in, aiming for the exposed core that glows like a wound. She fires another charged shot, the beam piercing through the creature’s defenses. Prime lets out a deafening shriek, its form flickering and distorting as the Phazon within it begins to overload.
But it’s not finished. In a final act of desperation, Prime lunges at her, its mass splitting into dozens of writhing appendages. The camera moves in tight as Samus grapples with the creature, her cannon pressed against its core. Her breathing is ragged, her eyes locked in fierce determination. With one final, devastating blast, she fires, the energy exploding outward and consuming the creature in a blinding cascade of light.
Samus is thrown backward, slamming into the floor as the chamber begins to collapse. The Phazon core erupts, streams of blue energy tearing through the walls and ceiling. She scrambles to her feet, her visor sparking as she sets the timed charge. Her movements are a blur of precision and urgency as she sprints for the exit, the collapsing chamber roaring behind her.
She dives into her gunship just as the frigate explodes in a cataclysmic flash, the shockwave rocking the ship as it hurtles away. The camera lingers on her inside the cockpit, her armor scorched, her visor cracked but her hands steady on the controls. She removes her helmet, her face etched with exhaustion but her eyes burning with resolve. As the wreckage fades into the distance, she sets her course.
“Time to end this.” she says, her voice low and resolute. The ship’s engines ignite, and the camera follows it as it disappears into the stars.
