Metroid: The Jennifer Lawrence-led Metroid video game adaptation has completed its casting with the additions of Patrick Dempsey (Standing Back, Thanksgiving), Rose Byrne (Red Queen, Amnesiac), and Violet McGraw (Escape, Gamera). McGraw will play a young version of the main character, Samus Aran, while Dempsey and Byrne will play her parents. Cary Joji Fukunaga directs the Nintendo adaptation from a script from Dawson Edwards.
Love Is...: The ensemble dramedy Love Is... has also finished fill out its cast, adding Gian Knight Ramirez (We Grown Now), Azriel Dalman (All I Need for Christmas, "Good American Family"), and Charlie Townsend (Killer Single Dad, "L.A.'s Finest") to the ensemble. The Joshua Collins-penned film is being directed by Greta Gerwig.
Night Stalker: True-crime serial killer drama Night Stalker has added a few talents to its cast. Gabriel Chavarria (The Raid, Blue Beetle) will play the uncle of serial killer Richard Ramirez who first explosed him to drugs and violence. Barbie Ferreira (Bob Trevino Likes It, "Euphoria") has been cast as Chavarria's suffering wife. India Eisley (Dead Money, Every Breath You Take) will play Inez Erickson, a woman who encoutered Ramirez during his murder spree. Trey Edward Shults is directing the film from a long-in-the-works script by Clive Steinbeck.
Power Rangers: We know the cast playing the five Power Rangers, now we know some of the other key players. Giancarlo Esposito (Justice League War, Baby Teeth) has been cast as their alien mentor Zordon, Alan Tudyk (Sinatra, Still Lives) will voice the robot Alpha 5, while Lucy Liu (Drake, Red One) will portray the villainous Rita Repulsa. Jake Kasdan is directing the film based on the classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series. Diane Esposito has penned the adaptation.
Broadway Joe: Jeremy Allen White (Eve of Destruction, Wonder Bean) is set to headline Broadway Joe, a film based on the life of legendary NFL quarterback Joe Namath. A football film obviously needs some coaches, with John C. Reilly (The ComeBack, Walker) and John Goodman (The Ballad of Dwight Frye, Tomato Can) being cast to help fill that need. Reilly will play Namath's college coach at the University of Alabama, Bear Bryant. Goodman, meanwhile, will play New York Jets head coach Weeb Ewbank. David O. Russell (Spark of Madness, Before and After) has been hired to direct the biopic based on a script by APJ (Joker vs. Deadshot, Marvin the Martian).
The Essence: Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Kill Zone, Sam) and Willem Dafoe (Fading Nights, Wonder Bean) have been cast in the horror project The Essence for writer Jimmy Ellis (Fading Nights, Sins of the Father) and director Ari Aster (The Omen, The Passenger). Harrison Jr. will play a young man plagued by a sinister spirit, played by Dafoe.
