The Numbers: Season 32 GRA Edition

 
 
 
In this annual special edition of The Numbers, we will take a look at the voting of the 32nd Golden Reel Awards. Specifically, we will take a look at the percentage of votes each nominee received. In addition to that, we also will reveal what films and talents just missed out on a GRA nomination by placing 5th in the nomination polling, as well as bringing in some trivia to coincide with each category.




40% - Scarlet Witch
35% - Mr. Happy
15% - The Vintner
10% - Phantasm: Awakening

5th Place Nominee: The Ballad of Dwight Frye (TIE) / Monopoly (TIE)

Trivia: Scarlet Witch is the 4th Marvel Universe film to win the Best Production Design GRA - joining Silver Surfer: The Power Cosmic (Season 14), Namor the Sub-Mariner (Season 17), and Scarlet (Season 25).




40% - Songbird
30% - The Ballad of Dwight Frye
25% - The Brothers Kendrick
5% - Scarlet Witch

5th Place Nominee: Orange Blossom

Trivia: Diane Esposito has become the fourth LRF writer to win consecutive Best Soundtrack GRA trophies. She joins the likes of Lon Charles (Seasons 4 and 5), Dwight Gallo (Seasons 24 and 25), and Chad Taylor (Seasons 26, 27, and 28).

5th Place Nominee: Scarlet Witch

Trivia: Superhero films have won 70% of the Most Wanted Sequel GRA trophies over the 30 season history of the award.

5th Place Nominee: Red Lantern Corps

Trivia: Superhero films have now won the last three Best Ensemble Cast GRA trophies in a row after not being awarded any over the first 29 seasons despite 14 nominations.

20% - Tom Glynn-Carney & Tom Holland - The Brothers Kendrick
20% - Jamie Bell & Adele Exarchopoulos - On Life and Living

5th Place Nominee: Adele Exarchopoulos & Jesse Plemons - Mr. Happy

Trivia: The Vintner is the 8th film in GRA history to win both Best Starring Couple and Best Picture. Three of those eight films were written (or co-written) by Dwight Gallo - Born in Brooklyn, Territory, and now The Vintner.

30% - Steve Martin - Monopoly
5% - Tyler Mane - Bigfoot
5% - Nina Dobrev - Scarlet Witch

5th Place Nominee: Tom Burke - Captain America: Winter's End (TIE) / Idris Elba - Red Lantern Corps (TIE) / Mel Gibson - Sins of the Father (TIE)

Trivia: Horror films now account for just six Best Villain GRA victories out of 32 seasons - out of a total of 20 nominations.

5th Place Nominee: Mr. Happy

Trivia: Monopoly is the first Comedy film to win this award in the 31 season history of the Best Adaptation category.

5th Place Nominee: On Life and Living (TIE) / Songbird (TIE)

Trivia: With The Vintner, Dwight Gallo has now won the Best Original Story trophy four times - out of nine nominations.

10% - Rosamund Pike - Love, Death, Revolution
5% - Ann Dowd - Sins of the Father

5th Place Nominee: Makenzie Leigh - The Ballad of Dwight Frye (TIE) / Hannah John-Kamen - Fading Nights (TIE) / Victoria Pedretti - Songbird (TIE)

Trivia: Jade Pettyjohn is now the 10th actress 30 years old or younger to win the Best Supporting Actress GRA.

10% - Al Pacino - Escape

5th Place Nominee: Richard E. Grant - The Ballad of Dwight Frye (TIE) / Paul Dano - Songbird (TIE)

Trivia: 44% of the films that won Best Supporting Actor have also won the Best Picture trophy, this season obviously included.




80% - Reese Witherspoon - Escape
10% - Taylor Swift - Songbird
7% - Margaret Qualley - Orange Blossom
3% - Alice Eve - Amityville Horror

5th Place Nominee: Adele Exarchopoulos - On Life and Living

Trivia: Reese Witherspoon's GRA-winning performance as Carolyn Jessop marks the sixth time the Best Actress GRA has gone to an actress playing a biographical role. It is the third time in the last four seasons.





67% - Viggo Mortensen - The Vintner
13% - Barry Keoghan - The Ballad of Dwight Frye
13% - Jamie Bell - On Life and Living
7% - Jesse Plemons - Mr. Happy

5th Place Nominee: George Clooney - Dean

Trivia: This win is the 6th Best Actor GRA for a role penned by Dwight Gallo, tying him with Jimmy Ellis for the second most of any writer. John Malone has them both beat with nine trophies.




40% - Pablo Larrain - The Vintner
27% - David Fincher - Escape
20% - Gareth Edwards - The Avengers
13% - Sam Mendes - The Ballad of Dwight Frye

5th Place Nominee: Max Barbakow - Monopoly

Trivia: Pablo Larrain is now the first Best Director GRA winner born in a South American country - Chile in this case. All other winners have been from the continents of North America, Europe, and Australia.




64% - The Vintner
15% - The Avengers
15% - Escape
6% - Songbird

5th Place Nominee: The Ballad of Dwight Frye (TIE) / Monopoly (TIE) / Mr. Happy (TIE)

Trivia: The Superhero genre is still looking for its first Best Picture GRA. The genre has now accounted for eight nominations over 32 seasons.
