Plot: In 2029, shopping malls are struggling to survive and virtually all of them have been consolidated into the hands of a real estate mogul, Florian Jacobs (Patrick Fabian). In a press conference, Jacobs announces that - to reduce cost - he is letting go of all of his security staff and replacing them with cutting-edge patrol robots (which are made from another arm of his business). Journalists ask if there are any concerns of the consequences of a malfunction but he says that is not possible. The robots with alert authorities and only subdue a suspect.

In Houston, three college students - Tad (Cody Christian), Miguel (Anthony Ramos) and Sebastian (Jack Quaid) - work at a furniture store in the Forest Hills Mall. Tad and Miguel tell Sebastian their big plan for the night: instead of "closing shop", they are going to sneak their girlfriends in and they will bring booze with them. And the mall will be theirs for the night. Seb is uneasy about this, as he doesn't want to get fired. Miguel pulls him aside and tells him that his girlfriend has mentioned that she has a single friend to bring along. To fit in, Seb says he is down to stay behind. The girls arrive as the mall's hours are winding down - Tad's girlfriend Becca (Camila Morrone), Miguel's girlfriend Rae (Corinne Foxx), and Rae's friend Lily (Grace Fulton). They start drinking and partying in the mall.

In the security room, we see three jet-black patrol robots with a red scanner visor activate. All the patrons have left, and one of the only people left in the building is the janitor Vinny (Max Casella). He is approached by one of the robots, who demands to see identification. He can't find his work ID on him and apologizes. The robot demands again. This starts to piss Vinny off. He starts to complain about they are probably going to take his job next. After failing to yield an ID, Vinny starts to continue mopping but the robot tases the pool of water at his feet, shocking Vinny to death. The robot says "thank you, have a nice day".

The students have returned to the furniture store where the two couples are having sex. Meanwhile, Seb and Lily connect but are both too shy to make a move so they sit on a couch and watch TV. A robot passes by and notices the pair on the couch. It goes into high alert about an intruder. The three robots descend on the store as the six students move to the back room and try to figure out what to do. They try to make outside calls but the robots are blocking their signals. Tad says that they should be able to show their worker ID and send them away. He goes out to talk to the robot, who demands ID. He shows his to it but the robot says "error". Tad tenses up and grabs a nearby lamp to fend the robot off. To show off his machismo, he hits the robot with the lamp, causing the robot to Tad by the neck and crush it. The robot tells his dead body "thank you, have a nice day". Becca screams in horror and this gives away the location of the others.

They navigate the mall to try to find an escape without confronting the malfunctioning robots. However, this proves nearly impossible as they start to be killed one by one. Becca is first, then Miguel, and finally Rae. Being the only ones left, Seb and Lily open up about how scared they feel. They try to find a place to hide so they can wait it out until more people arrive in the morning but the robots have the mall covered. Seb decides to distract them to allow Lily to sneak into a pet shop. He throws a fire extinguisher at the robot who deflects it back at him - knocking him in the chest, causing him to hit his head on the floor. Lily is in tears but tries to remain quiet. In the store, she starts to gather flammable materials that she can find to set up a trap. The robots hear a slight noise and start to patrol the pet shop. They clumsily run into cases for the snakes and spiders, who are released upon the floor - where Lily is hiding under some shelves. Even though they reach her trap, she can't find her way to execute her plan because she is surrounded by the snakes and spiders.

Suddenly, a flare comes shooting in and ignites the flames - melting the robots. Sebastian emerges, his head bandaged, and he offers a hand up to Lily to help her up. They both are exhausted and hug. He compliments her on setting up the trap. Morning comes and they are able to alert authorities. Meanwhile, in his mansion, we see Florian Jacobs counting his money. His phone rings but he ignores it as he continues to count.

"For better or worse, Chopping Mall knows exactly what kind of film it is. This first LRF Original was clearly made to appeal to that type of cult audience that likes its horror schlocky and silly. If you don't fit into that niche group, you should probably sit this one out."
