Plot: Archaeologist and ancient weapons collector Carter Hall (Taylor Kitsch) is given a package at the Midway City Museum from his colleague Professor James Rock (Simon Baker). Inside is an ancient Egyptian dagger. Upon touching the dagger, Hall relives his former life as Prince Khufu in ancient Egypt.
In Ancient Egypt, a meteor crashes down outside of Cairo. Prince Khufu sees it in the sky and goes with his guards to investigate. They find the meteor, which is made out of the strange Nth metal, a material with anti-gravity properties. He has the metoer brought back to the kingdom. His lover Chay-Ara (Jessica Biel) has a dagger made from the metal as a present for Khufu.
Hath-Set (Sean Bean), the high priest to the king, plots to kill Prince Khufu, the king's only heir, to put himself next in line to the throne. He and his personal guards attack Khufu and Chay-Ara as they are in bed. Khufu tries to fight off the guards with the dagger, but there are too many of them. Khufu takes the dagger and kills both Khufu and Chay-Ara with it. With his dying breath, Khufu vows to get revenge in this life or the next.
Carter Hall awakens from the experience, now with knowledge of his previous life. Meanwhile, Dr. Anton Haster has kidnapped a group of scientists and them building him a weapon underneath the Midway City subway system, siphoning power from the subway system to power the weapon. Carter decides to go for a walk through the city to clear his head. While he is out he spots a woman he immediately recognizes as his lover Chay-Ara. He introduces himself and tells her about his vision. She introduces herself as Shiera, and tells him that she has had similar visions. The two exchange phone numbers before Shiera tells him she has to get to work and boards the subway.
There is an explosion in Hastor's lab that blows out part of the ceiling. The subway car Shiera is riding in falls through the tracks and crashes down into Hastor's laboratory. Hastor decides to hold the passengers of the subway car hostage to buy enough time for his scientists to finish the weapon - an electrical energy reactor he plans to detonate.
When Carter hears about the subway explosion, he tries to call Shiera, but gets no response. When he sees Hastor on the news announcing that he has the hostages, he instantly recognizes Hastor as his murderer Hath-Set. Carter fashions himself wings and a belt of Nth metal, and dons a hawk-shaped headpiece from the museum. Armed with a mace and his dagger, he sets out to the source of the explosion.
When Carter arrives to Hastor's laboratory, he finds that Hastor has tied Shiera to a makeshift sacrificial altar. Carter and Hastor fight in the laboratory. Hastor tries to use an electric ray gun on Carter, but it has no effect due to the properties of the Nth metal. Hastor sets the energy reactor to detonate. Carter uses the dagger and stabs Hastor through the heart with it. He then sets Shiera free and flies her out of the underground laboratory and to safety as the reactor explodes. Carter and Shiera kiss above the city.
Post-Credits: Carter and Shiera both fly through the air as Hawkman and Hawkgirl.
