Plot: Captain David Anderson (Andre Braugher) of the SSV Normandy sends Shepard (Henry Cavill) and Ashley (Rebecca Hall) on a mission to the human colony of Eden Prime in order to recover a mysterious artifact of Prothean (ancient spacefaring race that died out long before the evolution of humans) origin.
There, they discover that the Eden Prime colony is under attack by alien synthetic life-forms known as the geth, led by a rogue turian Spectre named Saren Arterius (Javier Bardem).
After a tense fight, in which they are joined by a back-up team led by Garrus Vakarian (Tom Hardy), Ashley disappears in a explosion of lights after touching the artifact.
The Normandy and its crew are summoned by the Citadel Council to report on the matter. Unfortunately, Shepard is unable to convince the Council of Saren's treason without solid evidence. They also refuse to offer any help for the search of Ashley.
Saddened by the Council's reaction, David Anderson resigns and names Shepard as the next Commander of the Normandy.
Shepard enlists a couple of old friends in his newly formed crew: His childhood friend Joker as the pilot (Seth Green), Protheanologyst expert Liara T'Soni (Alicia Vikander),an old krogan friend Wrax (Dominic Purcell) and of course Garrus.
Shepard also begins having strange visions and fever dreams with Ashley, the Protheans and different moments in the history of mankind that lead to the discovery of the mass relays.
In the climax of the film, Shepard and his crew try to stop Saren from blowing up the Citadel and killing the Council in the process. In addition to this, Shepard begins having visions of fighting a highly-advanced machine race of synthetic-organic starships, called the Reapers.
The outcome of their mission is left somewhat ambiguous. The film ends with Shepard and Ashley on a beach having a philosophical conversation about mankind and how it fits in this galactic landscape and also about the nature of reality.
