Reaction: The western genre is a tricky one at the box office, but thankfully we have generally had pretty good luck with them at LRF. This film only becomes our 9th highest grossing western, but it thankfully still managed a profit.
"The Devil's Passage doesn't really give us anything all that fresh in the genre, but it does have a talented cast who elevate the material. This, covered with strong production values, help keep the film entertaining." - Matt Carson, Arizona Republic
"Unlike a film like Ranger or Hex, the characters here don't really feel like they exist in any sort of real world. These are characters who could only ever exist in western films, and not even the casting of strong actors like Ali, Hawke and Hedlund can make up for that." - Charles Triano, Los Angeles Times
"Mahershala Ali gives a game performance in the lead role, even if his character didn't feel all that original despite his ethnicity. There were some strong set pieces in the film, but the characters could have used some stronger development." - Michael Van Patten, Slant Magazine
Rated R for violence and some language
