"The House Down the Street is Taylor Sheridan at his best, a vast improvement on his last film. The pace at which this moves and the grip it had on me was intoxicating. Josh Hartnett played the role of Beckett to perfection, with every silent thought, loud, on screen. The script from Taylor is tight, leaving room for the actors to breathe." - J. Darrell Ellington, Behind the Camera
"Despite its slick production and decent performances (especially a committed Josh Hartnett), this feels like director Taylor Sheridan's weakest effort to date. The film starts with a strong, albeit familiar, premise, but leaves much to be desired, as if key elements/scenes were left on the cutting room floor. The ending, while thematically fitting, comes off as rushed and incomplete, leaving me more perplexed than satisfied. Ultimately, it lacks the depth one would expect given the talent involved." - Liv Simmons, Rogue River Press
"Director Taylor Sheridan has delivered a taut thriller with The House Down the Street. It is a smaller and more brutally efficient film than one has come to expect from writer Chad Taylor, more known for bigger, ambitious films, but he has crafted a story with ample tension and memorable characters here, along with a heart-pounding climax that lingers long after the credits role. This is a must see for fans of thrillers and spy films." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
Rated R for violence, language, and some sexual content.
