Reaction: Despite being the highest grossing film of Season 31 so far, Ocean Pawn has become a costly flop financially. Studio analysts suspect part of the problem could be that there simply may not be enough room  for a third underwater superhero fantasy franchise in one marketplace.

"Ocean Pawn is exciting and full of spectacular action, but I felt like it overly played its hand at its own lore almost to the point my brain started hurting until the action (and my THC drink) helped mend the pain. Overall, a decent fun time at the theaters filled with strong visuals and plenty of action-packed sequences that should keep audiences plenty entertained." - Blaine Vagur, Irish Times

"Ocean Pawn is a solid movie with a great climax in the form of a really well staged final battle. We are introduced to a complex world brought to life by Steven S. DeKnight's direction and Jack Ryder's writing. My biggest problem with this movie is it's length which was very much felt, especially for a Superhero / Action movie this movie is pretty long and it was dragging quite a bit. Even though the movie was long I still felt like many subplots and characters were a bit under developed and maybe the story should have been a bit more focused." - Clark Chase, Chicago Sun-Times

"Ocean Pawn sets its sights on an ambitious blend of action, superhero spectacle, and underwater fantasy, but it struggles to make a lasting impression. With a bloated runtime, the movie's pacing suffers tremendously, leaving viewers with an experience that feels more like a marathon than an adventure. Despite a strong cast, led by great performances from Marisa Abela and James Spader, Steven S. DeKnight's lack of directorial finesse becomes glaring as emotional beats don't always land. The underwater world developed by writer Jack Ryder shows a lot of potential with its engaging visuals, but the film's excellent visual effects can't mask the script's overindulgence." - Frank Estelle, Boca Breeze

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action and violence, thematic elements, and brief suggestive material
