Resume: Alan Ritchson

Alan Ritchson took the long way to action stardom in film and television, but now has starting establishing himself as a go-to action star in LRF. Let's take a look at that journey in this edition of Resume....

Season 4
Masters of the Universe
Director: Dean Israelite
Writer: Mark Newton

Budget: $116,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $186,213,088
Foreign Box Office: $230,759,905
Total Profit: $163,239,159

Alan Ritchson kicked off his LRF career with a bang, starring in the financially successful Masters of the Universe film based on the cartoon series. However, critics were not kind to the film - so it took a long time to see a sequel (more on that later).

Season 14
Sunny Days
Director: Bennett Miller
Writer: Jacob Jones

Budget: $40,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $25,304,553
Foreign Box Office: $10,821,795
Total Profit: -$45,804,668

Next up for Ritchson - a full 10 seasons after his debut - was a supporting role in the wrestling drama Sunny Days. He appeared as Bret "The Hitman" Hart in the project, which critics were not fond of. Even worse, the film lost a sizable $45 million for the studio (a lot given the $40 million budget).

Season 20
Aliens vs. Predator: The Long War
Director: Rupert Wyatt
Writer: Carl Flimmer

Budget: $135,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $123,850,568
Foreign Box Office: $206,300,199
Total Profit: $29,113,070

Ritchson stuck to another smaller supporting role for his next LRF appearance. Despite mixed reviews, the film - part of the studio's Alien/Predator Anthology - was successful at the box office.

Season 23
RoboCop Versus The Terminator
Director: Robert Rodriguez
Writer: Joshua Collins

Budget: $102,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $93,214,052
Foreign Box Office: $140,000,334
Total Profit: $15,576,485

Ritchson was next called upon for another small supporting role in a sci-fi franchise - this time as a Terminator. Once again, the film was successful enough at the box office even with its middling reviews.

The Oil Slick
Director: John Lee Hancock
Writer: Jacob Jones

Budget: $40,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $32,900,553
Foreign Box Office: $15,859,828
Total Profit: -$36,004,126

Later in Season 23, Ritchson was back - this time in a non-sci-fi role. He appeared briefly as NFL legend Joe Montana in the football film about the Houston Oilers team. The film was received well by critics, but was a flop at the box office.

Season 28
The Lights
Director: Bong Joon-ho
Writer: Sammy-Jo Ellis

Budget: $45,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $47,582,050
Foreign Box Office: $50,295,652
Total Profit: $8,112,049

Ritchson returned in Season 28 in a supporting role in Best Picture nominee The Lights. He played an astronaut in the film. It barely earned profits, but it was the best reviewed film on his LRF resume to date.

Season 30
Masters of the Universe: The Sword of Power
Director: Len Wiseman
Writer: Mark Newton

Budget: $130,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $218,373,842
Foreign Box Office: $271,495,923
Total Profit: $182,589,092

Ritchson finally returned as He-Man after 26 seasons. The wait seemed to be worth it as the sequel managed better box office and better reviews.

Season 34
Sgt. Rock
Director: Jalmari Helander
Writers: APJ & Jimmy Ellis

Budget: $110,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $166,300,007
Foreign Box Office: $140,551,774
Total Profit: $91,848,399

In Season 34, Ritchson made his DC Comics Universe debut as the titular character in Sgt. Rock. The film was another hit for Ritchson, solidifying his status as a leading man in LRF.

Up Next:
Following DOOM, Ritchson has yet to completely finalize his next role - although he has had discussions to star in a couple different new potential action franchises. Aside from that, future appearances as Sgt. Rock and/or He-Man are always possible.
