It seems like the box office is finally stabilizing, but I don't want to jinx it. Here's The Roundup....
3. Box Office
Macbeth and The Guns of Peridido basically cancelled each other out in terms of profits, which meant Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Flesh and Blood had to do the heavy lifting. Thankfully it was up to the task.
2. Macbeth
Did I think we needed another big-screen Macbeth? Absolutely not. Was this one pretty good? Yes it was. Cumberbatch was a bit miscast if you ask me, but Ferguson was perfect.
1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Clive Steinbeck's TCM reboot is way better than I was expecting - and way better than it really has any right to be. Dare I say, it is easily the best in the franchise since the original - this one brings the same visceral, psychopathic edge, but with a better cast.
3. N/A
2. Blockbusters
Clearly based on its budget and A-List cast/crew, The Guns of Peridido was being positioned as this round's potential blockbuster. This was the second time this season that the highest budgeted film in a round lost money at the box office.
1. The Guns of Peridido
On paper this one had the makings of a fun, action-packed western. But its execution was all over the map. Every single story thread felt like they were from disparate films. I felt like I was going to get whiplash from all the mismatched tonal shifts. Bay and Jones seemingly couldn't make up their minds if they wanted to make a gritty western actioner or a live-action cowboy cartoon.
