The GRA Races are finally starting to heat up. Here's The Roundup....
3. Best Actress GRA Race
This round certainly blew the GRA race for Best Actress wide open with three great actress performances from Jennifer Lawrence, Sydney Sweeney, and Chloe Grace Moretz - all of whom I am assuming will be up for Best Actress come GRA season.
2. Starlight
Every element of Starlight is solid - starting with the performances of its two leading ladies (Lawrence and Sweeney), who I think could both garner Best Actress GRA nominations.
1. Material Girl
While Starlight felt a bit safe at times, Material Girl took the bold move of making its central figure - Madonna - ruthless and kind of unlikable. It felt like the honest and authentic move - while people have always loved Madonna's songs and persona, I don't think anyone can claim to love her as a person - a move that paid off to create one of the season's best films so far.
3. N/A
2. DOOM
Outside of hardcore DOOM game fans - of which there are less every day - I don't see this one appealing to many. The horror wasn't scary enough and the action wasn't exciting enough.
1. Blockbusters
The poor box office of potential blockbusters continues. This was the second round in a row where the least expensive film of the round had the highest box office gross and profits. It's nice that smaller budgeted films are doing well, but it isn't good that the bigger budgeted films are struggling so much.
