Welcome to the Season 17 Golden Reel Awards, celebrating the best Last Resort Films releases of the studio's 17th season. Tonight there are 14 different films vying for the 14 prestigious awards on the line this evening. The nominees are led by The Glass Menagerie and Pulp with 9 nominations apiece, with The King of Hearts nipping at their heels with 8.
AND NOW FOR THE AWARDS....
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
The first award of the evening goes to Namor the Sub-Mariner, the first-ever live-action appearance of the Marvel character. The film becomes the second Marvel Universe production to take home the Best Production Design trophy, joining Silver Surfer: The Power Cosmic which claimed the award in Season 14. Namor the Sub-Mariner will have three more categories to potentially win.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
This is the first award of the evening for The Glass Menagerie, which comes into the ceremony with 9 nominations, the most of any film this season. This is the 4th Best Soundtrack win for writer Lon Charles, who has previously won for Cat People, Atlantic City and Kurt & Courtney: All Apologies.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
This is the second Most Wanted Sequel victory for writer John Malone, having previously won the award for Superman: The Man of Tomorrow. Namor the Sub-Mariner is now 2-2 during this ceremony, winning both awards it has been nominated for. The film is nominated in two more categories tonight.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
This is the second consecutive Best Ensemble Cast win for the writing duo of Jimmy Ellis and John Malone. They won the award last season for Bunker 17. Pulp wins its first category of the night, with nominations in 8 more nominations in the ceremony.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
The King of Hearts takes home its first award of the night. It is the first GRA wins for both Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks. The King of Hearts has nominations in six more categories, including Cruise for Best Actor and Hanks for Best Supporting Actor.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
Chad Taylor's adaptation of The Sandman takes home its first award after missing out on Most Wanted Sequel. This is Sam Claflin's first GRA win, as well as his first nomination.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
Make it 3-for-3 for Namor the Sub-Mariner on the night as it has now taken home the trophy in every category it has been nominated in. The film only has one more nomination on the night, although it is for the big award - Best Picture. This marks the 6th Best Adaptation award for writer John Malone.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
The King of Hearts takes home its second GRA of the evening after previously winning in the Best Starring Couple category. This is the 5th win in the Best Original Story category for writer Chad Taylor.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
Susan Sarandon wins the GRA trophy for Best Supporting Actress after being nominated in the same category last season. This is the second award for The Glass Menagerie on the evening, previously winning Best Soundtrack. The film is nominated in every remaining category of the ceremony.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
Tom Hanks wins his second award of the evening after having won the trophy for Best Starring Couple alongside co-star Tom Cruise. The film has won three awards so far and still is nominated in three more categories.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
The losing streak is over! Rooney Mara, after 7 acting nominations the actress (including two previous nominations in the Best Actress category) finally gets to take home a trophy. This award marks the third win on the evening for The Glass Menagerie.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
Tom Cruise wins the Best Actor Golden Reel Award after having been nominated for the same award last season for his performance in Heights. The King of Hearts has now won 4 GRA trophies tonight, with nominations remaining for the two final categories.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
After earning a nomination in the category 10 seasons ago for Revolution, Sam Mendes finally wins the Best Director GRA in his second try. This now makes 4 GRA victories for The Glass Menagerie, tying it with The King of Hearts for the most awards of the night. Both films are nominated for the final category.
AND THE AWARD GOES TO....
The King of Hearts takes home the final award of the night, giving it 5 wins, the most of the season. This is the 4th Best Picture win for a Chad Taylor-penned film.
