3. Tom Hanks
The King of Hearts looks to have really set up Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise for a big season. Hanks was impressive in his surprise secret supporting role in Namor the Sub-Mariner. It's also impressive that the studio and the filmmakers were able to keep such a big name a secret. Kudos. He gave a heartfelt, emotional performance. He doesn't have a ton of screen time, but I honestly wouldn't be shocked if he ends up part of the awards conversation.
2. Kiss Me Katie
I found the writing more impressive than the story itself, to be honest. Jacob Jones' script pulled off a tough narrative balancing act that helped make up for some of the problems I had with the characters.
1. Namor the Sub-Mariner
Namor the Sub-Mariner was an awesome film. Writer John Malone has arguably become a master of scale and spectacle over the seasons with films like The Prisoner and Superman: The Man of Tomorrow. Here, he reunited with his frequent star Alden Ehrenreich to make an epic superhero film that somehow combines nautical adventure, mystery and superheroic battles.
3. Escape the Unknown
First, let me say that Escape the Unknown is not a poorly made film. It's actually pretty well made and features an outstanding opening sequence. This one only ends up in the Bottom 3 because of how it slowly becomes disjointed as it goes along.
2. Michael B. Jordan
I think it's officially safe to say that Michael B. Jordan is box office poison. Only one of his six films have managed a profit, and the massive combined losses on the film may act as a warning to filmmakers in the future.
1. Box Office
This season's box office has been a wild ride. Overall grosses have been lower than usual, and the studio still needs the final round to be a big one to result in an all-time low at the worldwide box office for a season.
