Reaction: The Void has surprisingly become the biggest hit of the season so far. While Jeff Nichols has become a regular director for the studio, Josh Brolin has not been used much since the early days of LRF so we consider this a more than welcome return for the star.
"Not a perfect film, but definitely one that is highly engrossing and emotionally involving. Brolin anchors the film with one of his better performances, which is perfectly captured by director Jeff Nichols' intimate visual style." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
"Josh Brolin gives a great performance as man not only lost in space, but also lost once he's back home. The filmmakers have surrounded him with an immensely talented supporting cast, but this is very much Brolin's film. Brolin's emotional performance is also aided by expert direction from Jeff Nichols and a strong solo script from writer Jimmy Ellis." - Henry Stewart, Chicago Sun-Times
"Dare I say the best film from Jimmy Ellis since Elysian with Josh Brolin's most brilliant performance of his career. The Void does something that should be the standard for Sci-fi/Drama movies. Even with the supporting cast of Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris, and especially the underrated Giancarlo Esposito, Josh delivers what 'Lucy in the Sky' deprived us of and should've been. Jeff Nichols and Jimmy Ellis deliver the best sci-fi/drama since The Arrival." - Robbie Villanueva, Time
Rated PG-13 for language and thematic elements
