Reaction: Very strong numbers for this film, the LRF debut for director Cameron Crowe. The studio doesn't often tackle the romance genre, but this film managed to come in as the 6th highest grossing in the genre.
"On paper, The Long Way Home probably shouldn't have worked as well as it does. But it does. The characters are all interesting across the board, with the two parallel time periods/storylines serving each other quite nicely. Andrew Garfield was the perfect choice for the male lead in this one, as he is one of the few actors who can play shy and impulsive, but still come across as likable and empathetic." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
"The Long Way Home ended up being quite the pleasant surprise. The film tells a bigger story than I was expecting, and is filled with outstanding performances across the board. Thanks to a great cast and a strong script from Chad Taylor, director Cameron Crowe finally has good enough material for a return to form." - Cooper Wilson, The Earl Hays Press
"Let me start with the positives; Garfield is excellent as usual, with Stone, Pace & Abdul-Mateen II giving the most in their parts. While the Diana Ross cameo was super, I felt the flashback story carries most of the film, and the present day is somewhat tiring & tried. Despite Chad Taylor's well-formed plotting, Cameron Crowe isn't the one to bring it home as director. Still trying to shake off the stink of ALOHA, Crowe doesn't drive it all to the finishing line, but rather short for me." - Owens Poppins, RogerEbert.com
Rated PG-13 for sexual content, some language and thematic material
