Reaction: There was big jump in the foreign box office compared to its predecessor, Grayson. We suspect that may have something to do with the better name recognition that "Nightwing" has than "Grayson". Petsch showing up as Batgirl again after the success of her solo film earlier this season probably didn't hurt matters either.
"I'm starting to think that Dick Grayson simply doesn't work as the main character in a film without a Batman to play off of. While the character always felt like he had a purpose in APJ's Batman films, in his solo films Grayson feels like a reactionary, directionless protagonist. He isn't done any favors by the villain in this film, as Alfred Molina isn't given much to work with (what was his plan anyways?). While it is a minor improvement over Grayson, it wasn't enough of an improvement to earn my endorsement." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
"Another layer to the Batman lore and another winner for the DC Universe’s most successful franchise. The action is mixed splendidly with the dramatic moments of the film and Taron is stepping in as his own man thanks to his exploits as Dick Grayson and now, Nightwing. Cap it off with a heart stopping climax and you’ve got a strong film that adds to the Batman/Grayson lore." - Mitchell Parker, New York Times
"Taron Egerton carries a standard superhero story that mirrors if Ellis saw Batman: Tne Animated Series too many times while matching APJ's Batman film vibes. While Egerton carries it all, the film is left to lesser film noir tendencies as the story isn't interesting enough to validate something to connect Batman to Teen Titans. Not the worst thing to happen, but it could've been better if the villain was clear enough." - Cal Crowe, Washington Globe
Rated PG-13 for intense action violence
