Reaction: LRF's Dark Comedy films have always had a rough time at the box office and this one is obviously no different. It is also another flop for Chad Taylor's Hill Valley Entertainment, which has not set the box office on fire with its first few projects.
"Isabelle Huppert delivers an exceptional performance in this film, which is on the verge of either becoming a memorable classic or fading into obscurity. Haneke maintains his characteristically bold and uncompromising tone, which suits the story. In the end, Solace fails to subdue from its stagnant quality." - Victor Dreamer, Milwaukee Journal
"Despite Isabelle Huppert's commanding performance, the final outcome of this film feels disappointingly understated. While I understood the comedic elements, it left me uncharacteristically speechless during my theater experience. Although the narrative showed potential, I found myself perplexed by its overarching objective." - Daphne Stone, Nerdist"The characters of Solace are all unique and interesting, but I'm not sure there was enough story for a full film here. I liked a lot of the interactions and loved the well-developed conflict between the characters. Solace's small cast work the material well, but no number of talented actors can make up for a story that simply does not have enough meat on its bones. Even though the story is a bit lacking, I think that Isabelle Huppert still has a good chance at a Best Actress nomination if the field isn't especially strong." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
Rated R for language, thematic material and strong sexual content/nudity
