Reaction: The Biography genre has been a pretty consistent performer for the studio over the last several seasons, but the last couple have failed to find an audience on the big screen (more on that in this round's Box Office Breakdown).

"A standard biopic format is slightly enhanced by a great performance from Lili Reinhart, who is able to pull off Lombard herself as well as Lombard's very different screen persona. The cast and production value are strong in Becoming Carole Lombard, even if writer Ben Collins' script struggles to really delve into Lombard's life beyond the surface material." - Cooper Wilson, The Earl Hays Press

"Despite Lili Reinhart's charming and committed performance, I couldn't help but find Becoming Carole Lombard to be more than a bit lifeless. The story here displays the traditional format that countless other biographical films have used without adding much to differentiate outside of the facts specific to Carole Lombard." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press

"Regrettably, I believe that biopics of this nature have reached a saturation point in the film industry. While director Greta Gerwig seems like a natural choice for the time period and subject matter, the pacing of the script is sluggish, hindering the film's momentum. Lili Reinhart, who has been waiting for a role like this, delivers a captivating performance, nearly channeling the essence of the real-life character. However, the film ultimately feels like a tired retread of familiar territory, ending before it really got going, much like Carole Lombard's career." - Connor Pierce, Reelz.com

Rated PG-13 for sexual content, language and thematic material
