This round saw a couple of likely awards contenders, and Channing Tatum's LRF debut. Here's The Roundup....
3. Flash Gordon
The Flash Gordon remake from director James Gunn and writer Roy Horne is a lot of fun, even if it isn't very original. The casting and soundtrack are both great though and help make up for its other shortcomings.
2. Long Time
Long Time has more twists and turns than one would expect from a film of its genre and subject matter. Plus it gave Ethan Hawke a strong leading dramatic role, something he doesn't get nearly enough.
1. Suzanne
The film was confusing at times, but Suzanne is only one of the more intelligent dramas of the season. While some of the casting isn't exactly believable when it comes to the different ages of the main characters, it doesn't take too long to ignore that and get wrapped up in the drama.
3. Flash Gordon
I honestly just wish this would have done a little more with the material to differentiate it from the original Flash Gordon film. It stays way too close to the story of that film for may tastes.
2. Glenn Close
She just doesn't seem like the best choice for her role. I have to feel that someone like Sigourney Weaver would have been more believable in the role.
1. Box Office
One of these days I would love it if the movie-going population would embrace a smaller drama, rather than the usual action films that are hits at the box office.
