Reaction: The performance of Elysian at the box office once again shows how strong a draw Alden Ehrenreich appears to be at the box office - especially when it comes to mid-budget films. Ehrenreich has now starred in ten films for the studio, and only two have failed to make a profit at the box office (his first film for the studio Flicker and the controversial drama Girl/Girl).
“Elysian takes an interesting approach to the time travel drama. Can you really change past events, or are they destined to happen no matter what? Ehrenreich gives a strong lead performance as the main character trying to answer that very question.” - Roger Taggart, Chicago Tribune
“Time travel films are always a tricky proposition, but Elysian wisely doesn’t get too involved in the science of it all - which probably wouldn’t make much sense anyway - instead focusing on the emotional aspects that it would potentially bring up. It’s a strong, potentially esoteric, piece from director Jeremy Saulnier and writers Jimmy Ellis and John Malone.” - Rob Morse, ScreenRant
“Elysian is a somewhat messy film with some pacing issues, but it still manages to be an interesting film anchored by three primary performances from Ehrenreich, Woodley and Stevens. All three deliver strong performances as the three very different characters. Special marks go to Woodley though who nails probably the toughest role in the film.” - Desmond Rogers, TIME Magazine
Rated R for thematic material, language, and some graphic violent content.
