Hawkworld: Chris Geere ("You're the Worst", Detective Pikachu), Michaela Conlin ("Yellowstone", The Disappointments Room) and Jemaine Clement ("Legion", What We Do in the Shadows) will round out the cast of the DC Comics Universe film, Hawkworld. To The Max: Timothy Olyphant (Halo 3, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic), Matt Dillon (Mandingos, The House That Jack Built) and Garret Dillahunt (Don't Hang Up, Damned Ship) have all joined the dark crime comedy To The Max from writers Lon Charles and Chad Taylor. Halo 6: Things have developed pretty quickly for the first of the main Halo films not directly based on any of the video games, with Halo 6 already entering production. The film understandably will feature several familiar faces to fans of the franchise. Alexander Skarsgard (Swamp-Thing, Halo 5), Sarah Gadon (Blind Faith, Walker), Ben Foster (Halo 5, Resident Evil) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Halo 4, Fevre Dream) have all inked deals to return to the franchise. Skarsgard will once again play the Master Chief, Gadon returns as Cortana, Foster as Thel'Vadamee, and Cumberbatch as The Didact. One new wrinkle will be apparent for the franchise, with Gareth Edwards (Halo 1-5) not returning to direct due to commitments to a future Marvel Universe project for the studio. Instead, Halo 6 will be directed by David Yates (Halo: ODST, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). Mo Buck (Germinal, Captain Atom 2) has returned to write the screenplay.
The Cape: Ryan Hurst ("Outsiders", "The Walking Dead"), James Marsden (The Fog, Sonic the Hedgehog) and Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow, 45 Years) have signed on to star in adaptation of Joe Hill's comic and short story, The Cape. The film will tell the story of a man, played by Hurst, who uses a magical cape that gives him the power of flight to exact revenge on those he feels have wronged him. Marsden will play his brother, while Rampling will play their mother. Ari Aster (Blind Faith, Midsommar) is set to to direct the film from a script by Wesley Campbell (Bone, Saga) and HG Hansen (Unknown, Sabbatical Recovery).
Drugstore Perfume: Alex Wolff (Scream 5, The Vegan Movie) and Aubrey Plaza (Buried Memories, Torso) have been cast in the lead roles of the latest directorial effort from writer Alex Conn (The Virgin Suicides, The Letter J). Wolff will play a young man who returns home from his first term at college and finds himself forming a relationship with his former high school English teacher, played by Plaza.
The Andromeda Strain: Tom Cruise (Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Alan Wake) has had massive success with the Splinter Cell series, but now that the series has seemingly come to an end, he finds himself with time for other acting roles. He has just closed a deal to star in a new adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel The Andromeda Strain. He will play an expert in bacteriology who leads a team of doctors and scientists to combat a deadly new outbreak. Alec Baldwin (Under Pressure, Dino Crisis 2) and Sandra Oh ("Killing Eve", Tammy) have also signed onto the film. Baldwin will play a surgeon on the team, while Oh will play a microbiologist on the team. The film will reunite Cruise with his Oblivion and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski (Batman: Arkham, Metal Gear Solid). The new adaptation was penned by Dwight Gallo ("Nez Perce", Born in Brooklyn).
