Reaction: Not a huge hit, but certainly a success - and a solid comeback for director Tim Burton following the colossal flops that were his two previous films for LRF: Accordion De Chanson and Alternative.

"The casting of the film's primary roles is such a strong point, that it is frustrating that the film's more secondary roles are so distractingly and oddly cast. Seth MacFarlane and Tom Jones feel especially out of place, while Adam Pascal feels far too modern for the period piece." - Glenn Howard, Total Film

"I don't think we really needed another adaptation of this particular musical, especially when there are plenty of good musicals that haven't been done to death. However, the casting of Luke Evans as the Phantom is pretty spot-on. The film is worth watching for him alone." - Brian Edelstein, Time Out

"Director Tim Burton's theatrical style certainly suits the material - effectively giving the film a flavor that Joel Schumacher's adaptation was lacking in. Combine that with the good casting of the two lead roles, and you have a film that should appeal to fans of the material and casual film-goers alike." - Josh Manning, NY Daily News

Rated PG-13 for some violence and thematic material
