Reaction: Certainly not the numbers we were hoping for or expecting for from the first Quentin Tarantino film for LRF since Season 5. We're not sure if the poor box office is due to the genre combination or due to Emile Hirsch's lack of star power (and somewhat recent controversy) - or a little bit of both.
"The film is certainly far more traditional than one would expect from a Quentin Tarantino film, but it still works in its own way as a fairly standard, moderately entertaining historical drama." - Dave Cone, New York Post
"Hirsch and Farrell both do what they can with the lead roles, but neither is very well developed in the script. We never really learn what makes either character tick as they both come across as rather cold and distant from the audience." - Perry Manson, CinemaBlend.com
"The film is technically sound, but it just doesn't feel like a match for Quentin Tarantino's talents. The film is unable to take advantage of the filmmaker's unique vision and style, feeling far too standard a film for his catalog." - Chris Mears, Slashfilm
Rated R for brief graphic violence and some language
