Round 3 was a rare round with all three films managing to turn a profit. Here's The Roundup....
3. Abbie Q
While I did not like The Guest List (more on that below), I must take the opportunity to congratulate writer Abbie Q on her first profitable film.
2. Atlantis: Bloodline
Atlantis: Bloodline was the best film of this round, although that's not saying a whole lot this time around. I didn't love the film (more on that below), but it gave fans of the first film more of the same on a slightly bigger scale.
1. Box Office
All three films made a profit. That doesn't happen often, so it's worth noting. Hell, it might not happen again all season.
3. Atlantis: Bloodline
While it was the best film this round, I couldn't help but feel that the film was lacking in excitement. Writer Jimmy Ellis and director David Michod have crafted a detailed, but cold and dry version of Atlantis. Looking at the big drop in box office, Ellis and Michod might want to think about upping the action and excitement (and maybe finally give us the classic Aquaman character already).
2. The Liberation of Evil
The Liberation of Evil is not a terrible film, but it is WAY TOO LONG for a horror film. Entire sequences could - and should - have been cut to keep the tension up and the pacing quicker.
1. The Guest List
What was with the structure of this one? Maybe that's how the book is, but I'm sure the author would go more than a page before switching times again. The film didn't stay with any character long enough for the audience to build any kind of relationship with them, rendering its mystery completely pointless.
