A Second Look: Siren

Welcome back for another edition of A Second Look with Jeff Stockton! In this segment I will take a "second look" at a past LRF release with a fresh set of eyes.

With Amanda Seyfried - arguably LRF's top Scream Queen - back on the big screen with a new horror film, The Liberation of Evil, I went back to take a second look at her first horror project for the studio (and her first film for the studio - period).... Siren.

The first LRF project for writer Ben Collins, Seyfried played a demonic succubus forced to work as a prostitute by Eric Bana's character. The film was a hit at the box office and snagged surprisingly good reviews - it even managed 4 GRA nominations. I liked it when it came out. It felt fresh and the main characters had some decent material to work with.

Looking back at it now, the film still mostly holds up. It's maybe not quite as good as I remembered, but there is still some strong stuff in there. Miles Teller isn't given a ton to do as the protagonist, but he does have good chemistry with Seyfried. Bana, though, steals the entire film as Mr. Nyx the pimp.

Original Grade: B-

New Grade: C+
