Reaction: If this film had done better domestically it probably would have made a profit, but a film relatively flopping domestically is basically a death sentence even if it does well overseas.

"I'll start by saying the mechanics of the moon colony and the heist narrative are intriguing. The problem is that the film is throwing so much information at you in every scene that it rarely finds time to just sit with the characters and get to know them. Zendaya is compelling in the lead and her dynamic with Regina King is particularly strong. But I couldn't help but feel this would've worked better as a TV series (or perhaps its original novel form)." - Michael St. Felix, The Charlotte Observer

"Artemis has a character problem, especially in the lead role. They just felt a bit flat and lifeless, with Zendaya's Jazz the worst offender of the lot. There are definitely parts of the film that work, especially the setting and certain aspects of the plot, but without a character worth rooting for, those positives were moot." - Jon Farrell, Hollywood Reporter

"Artemis despite its strong visuals and unique setting, the film flounders in unnecessary details and over-exposition. The main character, Jazz, played by Zendaya, is obnoxious - plain and simple. This might have been okay if the plot succeeded more, but I found it all to be far too convoluted." - Bruce Vickers, Baltimore Sun

Rated R for sexual content, violence and language
