Captain America closed out the first half of the season on a high note. Here's The Roundup....
3. Glen Powell
Has LRF found its next Alden Ehrenreich? It obviously took a lot of supporting roles before finally getting a big one like Captain America, but it seems like he could be the next homegrown A-Lister. Speaking of Captain America...
2. Captain America
This ended up being about as good of a Captain America origin story could be. Cobb and Berg nailed the tone and the casting, while giving the character some fun updates to make a familiar story feel more fresh.
1. Miracles
I really liked Miracles. I'm not surprised it struggled at the box office with the waffling of tones/genres, but it was a very entertaining film filled with great performances - especially Qualley, Brolin and Plemons.
3. Box Office
Captain America was obviously a big hit, but Artemis and Miracles both flopped so it wasn't a perfect round.
2. Artemis
Zendaya's lead character was very unlikable, which made it hard to get into the film right off the bat. I liked the background and the setting of the film, but the plot was overly complicated and filled with too many pointless details that constantly slowed things down.
1. Award Contenders
Not much on that front so far with the two best (and best reviewed) films of the season being Miracles and Captain America. Miracles may be able to pull a couple acting nominations, but ensemble films tend to struggle in the actual ceremony. That's about it though, granted Caesar Part III will come out in Round 6...
