In this bold, contemporary take, Dorian Gray unfolds against the backdrop of today's hyper-curated world—where influence is currency, beauty is filtered, and the line between self and self-image gets blurrier every day. “There’s something hauntingly current about Wilde’s story,” Chalamet says. “We live in this era of endless reflection—our screens, our selfies, our feeds—and yet the more we look at ourselves, the less we really see. I think Dorian’s story, told through that lens, can hit different for a whole new generation.”
Chalamet, who’s not only starring but also developing the project creatively, is now on the hunt for the perfect director—someone with the vision to capture the film’s mix of opulence, unraveling, and psychological depth. “I’m looking for a director who gets the beauty and the rot—someone who can dance between seduction and decay, and still keep it emotionally real,” he adds. “This isn’t just a remake.
