Jeff Stockton here to kick off Round 1 of Season 33. It was a solid one with the studio starting out the season in the black, so there won't be a ton to nitpick this time around. Here's The Roundup....
3. Metroid
I've never played any of the Metroid video games, but I found this adaptation to be pretty good. It was a little dry at times and little light on action, but it made up for it with moody cosmic adventure.
2. Night Stalker
Based on Clive Steinbeck's filmography, I was expecting something a bit more violent and exploitative, but what the writer delivered turned out to be a thoughtful and tastefully told serial killer true crime horror story.
1. Dawson Edwards
Welcome to LRF! Another writer from the old CMP days has made the move over to LRF, debuting with an impressive box office hit. Hopefully there is plenty more to come from Dawson.
3. N/A
2. Female-Led Action Films
While Metroid was a hit, it did get me to thinking about the lack of SUCCESSFUL female-led action films in and out of LRF. Hopefully films like Metroid and the Supergirl sequel due out later this season can help turn that around.
1. Love Is...
There is plenty of good stuff in Joshua Collins' latest, Love Is... The storylines featuring Paul Dano and Steve Martin were highlights for me, but the stuff with the kids was quite the slog to get through.
