Reaction: Very solid numbers for this YA franchise starter, especially considering the poor reaction to the previous low-budget adaptation. We aggressively marketed this film toward a younger female demographic, much like we did with Hansen's adaptation of Looking for Alaska, and it worked even better this time around.
"Joss Whedon's Maximum Ride will play well with its younger target audience. There's plenty of low-stakes action, just enough "will they or won't they" romantic chemistry between Olivia Cooke and Dylan Sprayberry, and plenty of angsty drama." - Henry Stewart, Chicago Sun-Times
"Director Joss Whedon and writer H.G. Hansen appear to understand what the intended audience wants out of movies like this. It's not a movie for everyone, but it does what it sets out to do very well." - Charles Yost, Oregonian
"Maximum Ride is an unrelentingly silly film. I can already picture drinking based around the characters' poor decision making and the goofiness of the premise and its highly repetitive storylines." - Clark Davis, JoBlo.com
