Reaction: Well, Will Smith does not seem to be quite the box office draw he was in years past. The success of this film largely hinged on audiences flocking to see him on the big screen. It's easy to forget that Smith hasn't very many hit films in recent years. For the studio, Blue Heat has become the second substantial box office bomb in as many rounds.
"Blue Heat is a throwback action film, but not in a good way. The whole affair feels very dated, from the X-Games inclusion to the bland plot itself." - Jeff Stockton, The Roundup
"Will Smith and Taron Egerton make for an entertaining lead duo in this surprisingly fun, albeit generic, cop actioner." - Olive Carroll, Houston Chronicle
"Blue Heat features strong lead performances from Smith, Egerton and Boyega, but is so full of cliches to the point of unintentional comedy. Everything is strictly by the book. The cast is wasted by a film lacking in original ideas." - Sean Williamson, Toronto Star
