The Story of the Assassin: The upcoming historical action film from director Mike Newell and writer Meirad Tako has added a whole bunch of international actors to its cast. Khaled Nabawy (Fair Game, Plan B), Amr Waked (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, Lucy), Ali Suliman (Lone Survivor, "Jack Ryan"), Ghassan Massoud (Exodus: Gods and Kings, All the Money in the World) and Jenna Dewan ("Witches of East End", "Supergirl") have all been cast in the film, which is currently shooting in Morocco.
Blue Heat: Four more have joined Will Smith in the upcoming cop action story, Blue Heat. Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family", Hot Pursuit) has been cast as Smith's love interest, Deborah Ann Woll ("Daredevil", "True Blood") as a fellow police officer, Sullivan Stapleton (The Creature, "Blindspot") as Smith's former partner, and Christopher Meloni (Snatched, "Happy!") as Smith's commanding officer. Gareth Evans is directing the film from a script by Jack Ryder.
Queen Mary: Anya Taylor-Joy (Life on Mars, The Squared Circle), Katherine Langford (Trip, Hawkeye) and Rupert Grint (Moonwalkers, "Snatch") have all joined Eli Roth's YouTube-inspired horror story, Queen Mary. They play members of a group of friends investigating a supposedly haunted ship. Alex Conn wrote the script.
Sweet Tooth: Production is back on track for the Spike Jonze-directed comic adaptation. Jeffrey Wright (Hold the Dark, "Westworld"), Michael Rooker (Eclipse, Hiroshima) and Madeline Brewer ("The Handmaid's Tale", "Hemlock Grove") have all joined the continued shooting. Brewer has been cast as a human-pig hybrid, Rooker as a man who brings the main characters to a mysterious "Preserve", and Wright as a scientist looking for a cure to a mysterious plague. Seth Overton penned the adaptation.
Cascade: Chad Taylor has joined the list of writers to attempt the western genre with Cascade. The film tells the story of a Chinese immigrant working on the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad. John Cho (Columbus, Star Trek Beyond), Gary Oldman (Paradiso, La Resistance) and Hugo Weaving (Made in Abyss, Gorky Park) have all signed on to appear in the film. Cho will play the lead character, a railroad worker. Weaving will play a railroad baron, while Oldman will play the leader of a gang. South Korean director Kogonada (Columbus) will make his LRF debut on the project, reuniting with John Cho, his Columbus star.
Runaway: Mo Buck has penned a feature film adaptation of the French-Canadian TV drama series "Runaway" with Xavier Dolan (Mommy, It's Only the End of the World) set to direct. Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge of Seventeen, Split), Caleb Landry Jones (Batman: Gotham Knight, Dark Places) and Evan Rachel Wood (Reality, High Society) have signed on to star in the film that tells the story of a teenage girl whose life begins to spiral out of control. Richardson has been cast in the lead role, Jones will play an up-and-coming local rapper she has a relationship with, while Wood will play a young woman Richardson meets at a night club.
