The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 11 Round 1)

Welcome to Season 11, folks. We saw the return of an old writer, an another hit in the Halo universe, and a true crime film disappoints. Here's The Roundup.....
3. Halo: The Fall of Reach
Seven films in and the series is still putting out high quality blockbusters. That's pretty impressive if you ask me. This film was more successful than the other spin-offs/prequels/side films/whatever you want to call them, and I guarantee you this is because they wisely included Alexander Skarsgard as the Master Chief, the heart of the franchise.

2. The Stand

Matt Parker did a good job condensing King's ridiculously long novel into one film. Some fans may not like how much is cut out, but the film kept the story simple and always moving. The film also assembled a great ensemble cast led by Taylor Kitsch and Eric Bana.

1. Matt Parker
Welcome back, Matt Parker. He hasn't had a film since Season 4, and now we get more films as well as a TV series (I highly recommend "Gauntlet" if you haven't checked it out yet - it's like a soap opera for men...).

3. Robin Wright
I think she's gotten stuck in "House of Cards" mode in recent years. She hasn't given a performance with an liveliness in the years since she began working on that series. She had been stuck playing cold, lifeless characters - her role in the Halo series is no different.

2. Isla Vista
I guess I struggle to see the point the writers were trying to get across with the film. It didn't really seem to delve into his psychology, or maybe Elliot Rodger just doesn't have that much of a psychology to really delve into in the first place. He was a horny jerk who couldn't get laid (because he was a jerk), so he decided to get "revenge". There just isn't a film there if you ask me.

1. Nick Robinson
Seems like a questionable career move for Nick Robinson to play a character so unlikable. Maybe he thought he'd see the career bump that Jesse Plemons saw with The Tower. Unfortunately the characters, despite both committing a mass murder, are quite different. The better comparison, unfortunately for the filmmakers behind Isla Vista, is probably the Jared Leto-led Chapter 27.
