Reaction: Nice numbers from a small thriller without much star power. The Troop makes two consecutive profitable films for writer T.F.W. Hallowayne (this and last season's Eileen) after starting his LRF career with two films that failed at the box office (Asylum and Life After Life).

"The Troop, despite having a fun premise, is a film without much character. I found myself mixing up the various boys of the titular group regularly, and Ethan Hawke, while receiving top-billing, has surprisingly little to do in this affair." - Samuel O'Brien, Sight and Sound Magazine

"Director James DeMonaco has built his career on getting a lot of a little. Here he manages to get some solid tension and scares out of what is a pretty flimsy premise on paper." - Ben Mazur, SciFiNow

"While Ethan Hawke is mostly wasted in his role, the child actors that make up the main cast make up for it with lively, colorful performances." - Clark Davis, JoBlo.com

Rated R for language, violence and gore.
