Behind the Scenes: How to Survive in Hell - Teaser

Dominic Wilkins (Don't Hang Up, Metamorpho) has prepared a bit of a teaser to help set the stage for his latest film as a writer, How to Survive in Hell, which has been brought to the big screen by director Shane Black (Numero Uno, The Predator).

The year is 2105, an unknown event caused the whole economy of the United States to collapse. Banks are closed and the currency is worth next to nothing. In these difficult times, people work hard for next to nothing and items that are a commodity in today’s world have become hard to find and have a high value. The United States are isolated from the rest of the world and the borders with both Canada and Mexico have been shut down. Since nobody is able to afford travelling anymore, there are no planes and boats who leave the United States. The only cars left are old and rusty, so people are forced to travel in the crowded subway or tramways that were built just before the collapse. Cities that were once developed and thriving (mainly New York) are abandoned, as nobody as enough money to buy the land.

These megacities that were once the pride of the country are heavily guarded by various organizations, as they still contain foreign currency that could be used to get out of this hellhole. There’s no government in place, a large number of groups decide between themselves in Washington. None of them has the desire to get the country back to normal, instead, they want to save their asses and flee the land. Groups of rebels defy these groups on a daily basis are massacred.

Despite all of that, life continues all around the country. Kids still go to school and learn and if they have good enough grades, can even be selected by a program that selects the best students from all around the country to send them somewhere else, in another country to live a better life. The brain drain has been massively criticized and pointed out as one of the main causes why the country fails to get back up, as the groups in place don’t want to be dislodged by a group of intellectuals who have the success of their country at heart, because to be frank, intelligence isn’t the key factor to get a seat at the table. Intimidation, crime and murder are required to get a seat at the table. These people are rich and will do everything they can to leave the country. Their groups are called People Power, Power to the People, People’s Party and all the variants, but they couldn’t care less about them, they just want to leave, possibly to Canada. They gain their fortune by collecting a portion of the already small revenue of their members (who are forced to sign up) and as soon as they have enough money, they fake their own death and leave for Canada, hoping for a better life and frankly, they’ll have a better life. It’s common practice.

Our story follows a group of college students who live their life to the fullest despite the socio-economic situation. It may seem like a teen movie, but our group of protagonists will soon see themselves in an unusual situation and will have to hide if they want to stay alive. This is How to Survive in Hell by Dominic Wilkins.

And to top it off, the opening credits to the film have also been released courtesy of Mo Buck:
