Reaction: Without the presence of fan favorite characters and cast, it's honestly not surprising that this is the lowest grossing film of the Mass Effect series. That said, we at the studio will never turn our nose up at a film that made a profit of more than $65 million.
"Mass Effect: First Contact may not have all of the action set pieces audiences expect from the franchise, but it does provide an interesting piece of backstory to the mythology." - Charles Triano, Los Angeles Times
"The film is hindered by a fairly bland protagonist played by James McAvoy. When the most interesting aspect of your lead character is a final reveal at the end, that's never a good sign." - Allen Poole, AV Club
"One of the nice aspects of the Mass Effect series is that it has allowed different directors to tackle the spin-off films in their own unique styles. Mass Effect: First Contact benefits from the strength of Alex Garland behind the camera, giving the film a style that separates it from the others." - Tom Lane, Detroit News
Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence and some language.
