Reaction: This film definitely wasn't an easy one for the marketing department. Part historical drama, part murder mystery, part chess film - The Tournament ended up losing money, but we were hoping the pedigree of Paul Greengrass and the draw of rising stars like Dornan and Cassidy would bring people into the theater.
"Despite strong lead performances from Jamie Dornan and Raffey Cassidy, Paul Greengrass' The Tournament is a muddled film with too many moving pieces and not enough coherency." - Chris Mears, Slashfilm
"Jamie Dornan once again shows that he really could be the next A-list star with another strong performance. The film manages to transplant a mystery/thriller plot line to a unique historical setting, creating a unique film experience." - Dave Cone, New York Post
"The Tournament moves along at a snail's pace, slowly unweaving the mystery. Unfortunately, the film is being marketed as a thriller, and it isn't exactly thrilling." - Sean Williamson, Toronto Star
Rated R for some graphic violence, disturbing images and sexual content
