That Was Then, This Is Now: Peter Sarsgaard (Fear of the Dark, Misfit), Josh Lucas (Ford v. Ferrari, The Secret: Dare to Dream), Jack O'Connell (Photographs, Morrissey and Marr) and Chloe Sevigny (High School, Queen & Slim) will round out the ensemble cast of the Gus Van Sant-directed S.E. Hinton adaptation, That Was Then, This Is Now. Rachel Hallett Hardcastle and Harmony Winters have written the script.
Stepford: Jurnee Smollett (The Temptations, The Crucible), January Jones (Lowell, Decrescendo), James Spader (Walker, Halo 5) and Rebecca Mader ("Once Upon a Time, Iron Man 3) have joined the latest adaptation of the novel The Stepford Wives by author Ira Levin. Smollett and Jones will play friends the main character, played by Emma Stone, makes upon moving to the idylic town of Stepford. Spader will play the founder of the town, while Mader will play his beautiful wife. Yorgos Lanthimos directs from a script by Lon Charles and Carl Flimmer.
The Grenade: Harry Collett (Doolittle, Dunkirk), Indica Watson (Radioactive, A Boy Called Christmas) and Sam Taylor Buck ("Good Omens", "Medici") will round out the cast of the low-budget drama, The Grenade. Andrew Haigh helms the film from an original story by Jimmy Ellis.
Gears of War: After years of rumors in Hollywood, a film based on the Gears of War video game series is finally on its way to theaters. Joel Edgerton (The Champions of Angor, Nexus), Edgar Ramirez (Metamorpho, Atlas Shrugged) and Glen Powell (The Fall Guy, Hands on a Hard Body) have signed on to star in the film which will depict a future war between man and a reptilian alien race known as the Locusts. Edgerton will play Marcus Fenix, a former war hero turned prisoner. Ramirez will play Dominic Santiago, Fenix's war buddy who breaks him out of prison to help in the war efforts. Powell, meanwhile, will play Damon Baird, a wise-cracking member of their unit. Zack Snyder (The Fountainhead, Army of the Dead) will direct the film, his first project for the studio since Season 2. Mark Newton (Rainbow Six, Blood in the Water) has penned the adaptation.
INFINITY: Tom Cruise (At the Mountains of Madness, The King of Hearts) is once again back to work for the studio, taking on the lead role in the sc-fi thriller INFINITY. He will play a computer expert who inadvertently creates a nefarious computer virus. Anne Hathaway (Eileen, Calamity) has agreed to play the film's villain, the physical embodiment of the virus, called Infinity. Duncan Jones (Recursion, Driving Around the Time) is set to direct the project based on an original script by Jacob Jones (The Crow: Resurrected, Kazaria).
Gambit: District X: This season will see two X-Men related projects as Garrett Hedlund (Gambit and Rogue, The Devil's Revenge) is set to return as Gambit in another solo adventure. In this film, Gambit will be looking to uncover secrets from his past. As it was revealed at the latest LRF Comic-Con, Andrew Scott (Less, The Killings) has signed a deal to play fan favorite X-Men villain Mr. Sinister in the film. His role in the film will be in a series of flashback scenes featuring a teenaged Gambit. Also joining the film will be Clarke Peters (Da 5 Bloods, Come Away) as the mutant Masque. Jim Mickle (In the Shadow of the Moon, Cold in July) will direct his first film for the studio with the project, which is once again written by Chad Taylor (Tokyo Rose, Prodigy).
