Reaction: The box office isn't a big surprise as films like this have always struggled to translate to overseas audiences. And with the R-rating, the film was likely to reach the younger audience that might enjoy the film.
"This story feels almost identical to several other Alex Conn-penned films - namely a lead character who is bad with girls trying to kill himself in between social media posts and trips to chain restaurants." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
"While the cast is mostly capable, the constant product placement is more than distracting. There are way too many scenes of characters sitting doing nothing to the point that I can't even remember any of their goals - if there ever were any." - Jeff Stockton, The Roundup
"Compared to Lovestruck, this is a step-up. Most of the characters do at least have some decency and charm to them and you can relate to the main character's struggles. However, I am getting quite sick of the protagonist suicide scenes Alex has been known for and I'm still not impressed with his portrayal of women in his movies, mainly with how they tend to be either blank slates or accessories to the men. Charlie Plummer and Kaitlyn Dever do have some chemistry and again, it is an improvement, but Alex really needs to change things up because his formula has become quite predictable." - Mitchell Parker, New York Times
Rated R for language, sexual content and thematic elements including a suicide attempt
