Reaction: Yet another novel adaptation bites the dust at the box office. There are still five more novel adaptations due out this season, so hopefully they fare better that this one.
"Boy's Life directed by Benh Zeitlin and written by Eden Townsend, is too busy for me to really enjoy it. It definitely has some interesting mystery elements that it should have focused more on, but it ended up to be quite unstructured. Some scenes even feel unnecessary making me wonder why they were put in the movie." - Clark Chase, Chicago Sun-Times
"Boy's Life struggles to balance its mix of mystery, horror, and coming-of-age elements. Julian Hilliard's performance as young Cory is earnest but overshadowed by the convoluted plot and an overabundance of characters. The pacing is uneven, with moments of genuine tension diluted by unnecessary subplots and melodrama. Zeitlin's direction, though visually appealing, fails to maintain a consistent tone. This film could have worked if Eden Townsend's script were able to find the core of the story better." - Cooper Wilson, The Earl Hays Press
"Like a lot of novel adaptations here in LRF this one is a bit of a mess. I would like to start seeing the writer’s of these films take the stories and bend them in their own ways instead of what seems to be copying the book summary. Now I’m not sure if that’s what was done but it felt like it to me. I truly was not a fan of this film whatsoever." - Robert Clapton, New York Times
Rated PG-13 for thematic elements, violence, and disturbing images
