Reaction: Thanks to great domestic box office numbers - most likely due  to the name recognition values of star Chris Pratt and director Zack Snyder - this film coasted to a strong profit to start Season 30 off on a bang.

“It was illuminating to see Zack Snyder step out of his comfort zone and tackle what is surely the most grounded story in his entire career. His eye for action is a good fit here as the film is largely one long thrilling (and terrifying) sequence. I was less impressed with the work in front of the camera as the cast felt largely forgettable, led by a serviceable Pratt who continues to shy away from his strengths as a performer." - Reggie Coscarelli, San Fernando Valley Sun

"Kill Zone is half patriotic biopic and half intense action film. It's an interesting idea that mostly works, albeit with a few hiccups here and there. The characters don't quite enough time to breathe and develop aside from Pratt's Chontosh and the plot itself could use a bit more context for those unfamiliar with the geo-political situation during that setting. Once the action gets going though, it is mail-bitingly good and will have your eyes glued to the screen." - Ben Fullmer, Knoxville News Sentinel

"Kill Zone delivers a gripping and intense war drama based in the 2003 Iraq invasion. Chris Pratt is great as Brian Chontosh, who leads his untested team into a harrowing ambush in Al Diwaniyah. Tim Allen also impresses in a performance against type as the commanding officer back at base. Zack Snyder's direction masterfully captures the chaos and bravery of war, especially during the convoy's ambush, acting as a powerful tribute to the heroism of soldiers in combat." - Cooper Wilson, The Earl Hays Press

Rated R for strong war violence, language and thematic material
