Reaction: Very strong numbers for writer Nic Suzuki's debut film and LRF's first effort in the kaiju genre. The film is also a very welcome blockbuster in a season where they have been few and far between.
“I can’t say I am a massive fans of these types of monster movies. Gamera was no exception, however, I have to say that the visuals were amazing! I just found trouble with the amount of exposition within the film. Most performances felt very stiff, with next to no, real personality within the human characters. In saying that it was not a total failure and a very promising start for Nic Suzuki who I look forward to seeing more from. Again, if you are a fan of the monster films, you will be of this.” - J. Darrell Ellington., Behind the Camera
"Despite GAMERA's confusing narrative choices and underdeveloped characters, the epic monster mayhem delivers enough chaos to keep you entertained. It's the kind of film where you can sit back, munch on popcorn, and revel in the spectacle of glorious destruction." - Frannie Drake, CBC News
"Gamera is a spectacular fusion of action and sci-fi that breathes new life into the classic Japanese monster franchise. The film delivers breathtaking special effects and heart-pounding action sequences, particularly during the climactic battle in Tokyo Bay. The narrative deftly balances character development and monster mayhem, offering a refreshing take on kaiju lore. Though occasionally bogged down by its complex plot, Gamera is a thrilling, visually stunning adventure that pays homage to its roots while setting a new standard for giant monster movies." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and destruction, and some language
