Reaction: These are certainly not the results the studio or writer Jacob Jones were hoping for, but Jones' two previous films were so successful that this one shouldn't hurt too much.

"The comedy sub-genre feels completely misleading for Written By Jason. The film feels like a poorly conceived melodrama about a young filmmaker flashing back to high school events that don't raise the excitement or interest level of the character. And in what world does Jack Dylan Grazer feel like a younger version of Lucas Hedges? They both look and act nothing alike. Same could be said for Elsie Fisher and Jade Pettyjohn as well. A big part of this film's struggles are due to poor casting choices like those." - Janelle Arbor, Vogue

"Written By Jason attempts to capture the journey of a budding filmmaker but falls short of its ambitious goals. While Lucas Hedges delivers a commendable performance as the adult Jason, Jack Dylan Grazer's portrayal of the younger Jason lacks depth and fails to resonate with the audience, often feeling forced and disconnected - and failing to match Hedges' performance in any capacity. Despite a promising premise and some interesting elements, the film struggles to find its footing, resulting in a disjointed endeavor." - Stephen Bonds, San Francisco Chronicle

"While I appreciate the artistic intent, I found the film disappointing. It felt like an experiment that didn't quite work. The performances were commendable, but Sofia Coppola's direction clashed with Jacob Jones' script. The film aimed for Kaufman-like brilliance but ultimately fell short. For me, close isn't good enough." - Tiffany Lynch, Knoxville News Sentinel

Rated PG-13 for thematic elements and some language
