Welcome back for another edition of A Second Look with Jeff Stockton! In this segment I will take a "second look" at a past LRF release with a fresh set of eyes.
This time around, I will be taking a look at Hotel California, which features LRF's Black Widow, Mila Kunis, as the female lead. The film is obviously (and unfortunately) based on one of the worst, most overplayed songs in the catalog of The Eagles. When the film was released in Season 15, I had to commend the film for being an unpredictable, twisty-turny horror/mystery despite being inspired by such a terrible song.
Taking a "second look" at Hotel California now, my opinion hasn't changed much. I think the casting of the lead role, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, probably could have been a little better. And my feelings on the Eagles or the title song here have certainly not changed. The film doesn't hold up quite as well the second time around as it loses shock value, but it is still a pretty entertaining film.
