Reaction: The second half of Season 31 has clearly not been as kind to writer Jacob Jones at the box office as the first half was, although he is still in the black on profits for the season.

"I must start off my review by saying that the entire premise of Guy on the Fly feels incredibly flimsy and contrived. The keeps things lighthearted and engaging, mostly thanks to a charming leading performance from Maude Apatow, Dylan Sprayberry does not quite work up to her level. I didn't hate Guy on the Fly as it at least keep things light and well-paced with a catchy soundtrack, but it is not a story that will hold up to any kind of scrutiny." - Grace Palance, indieWire

"Despite how the cast tries to act younger than some of them are, The film attempts a fresh take on modern relationships with a teen comedy throwback vibe, but its overly silly tone and aimless ending undermine the effort. Despite strong performances from Sprayberry and Apatow (& no one else), the film made me throw my hands up & question what was the big deal to begin with. This would have been better suited for streaming." - Jim Kent, Log Cabin Democrat

"Guy on the Fly directed by Marc Webb with a screenplay from Jacob Jones is a solid coming-of-age movie. I especially liked the performances from Maude Apatow and Dylan Sprayberry playing Clarissa and Adam respectively. Sprayberry's Adam in the end had some scenes were I really felt for him. I must say that for a romantic comedy very few jokes hit. Most of the cast being in their mid 20s while playing teenagers was a bit confusing. I also wasn't a fan of the ending, it felt like a very cheap way to have some sort of happy ending." - Clark Chase, Chicago Sun-Times

Rated PG-13 for some suggestive content, mild language, and thematic elements
