Welcome back for another edition of A Second Look with Jeff Stockton! In this segment I will take a "second look" at a past LRF release with a fresh set of eyes.
This time around, I will be taking a second look at Saga - an animation adaptation of the comic series of the same name. My initial take on Saga, based on my notes from Season 10, are that the film failed to click with its story despite a noble effort from writer Wesley Campbell and director Andy Serkis. Part of me wondered back then if animation was the best medium for the story. I think live-action could have potentially worked a little better but there are plenty of other flaws.
Taking another look now in Season 32, I found the characters underdeveloped and the world lacing in explanation. The voice actors in the cast don't add a lot to the characters. Campbell's adaptation tries to adapt too much comic story without ever really spending the time required to make the audience care about the characters. My opinion didn't really change - I didn't like it in Season 10, and I didn't like it in Season 32.
