The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 20 Round 8)

With Round 8 ending, LRF is down to just six more releases coming up in Season 20. Here's The Roundup....

3. Brian Cox
While I had problems with The Grenade, Brian Cox was certainly not one of the them. The film came to life more when he was onscreen - if only he had more screen time...

2. Gambit
Writer Chad Taylor has successfully taken a character that was never a huge draw (although Gambit definitely has a fan base) and turned into a viable franchise. I hope to see more in the future.

1. Marvel Universe
Clearly the Marvel Universe is thriving with the studio now. And it's not shying away from connectivity, which is nice since it feels like the DC Comics Universe films are branching away from each other (with the only overlaps seemingly coming from the once every 10 seasons Justice League team-up).
3. Profits
Obviously it is preferable if more than one film in a round makes a profit (even if it is a big hit), but clearly it would appear that any film not based on a Marvel Comics character was doomed this round.

2. The Grenade
I didn't hate The Grenade, but I felt it was a bit too slight. By the time the end came, I was taken aback because it didn't really feel like an ending (or much of a plot really). While I didn't love it this time around, I do think that this could be a prime candidate for A Second Look in several seasons.

1. INFINITY
I just couldn't get on board with this one. The premise felt too dated (like something out of the late 1980s or early 1990s when everyone was afraid of technology). Even without the cheesy premise it had problems. What was the point of casting Tom Cruise (and paying his fat salary) for a character that doesn't even feel like the lead at times (and doesn't show up for what felt like forever)? INFINITY needed more Tom Cruise and a story that made more sense.
